She’s pretty clear about her intentions in the article. She’s 19, she’s entitled to change her look and her ideas. She’s also pretty clear in the article that she’s not doing it to be objectified, and even if she was, there’s nothing wrong with that.

And yes, I agree that people can change their minds whenever they want to. It was just sort of unexpected with her being very (very!) adamant about her wanting to look a certain way to avoid being classified as a sex object. That being said, I'm still not a fan of the look. Regardless of her new look being the change she's wanting, it feels forced. As I said, it's too much Lady Gaga and doesn't seem very authentic at all.

To be fair, she was also a child when she demanded not to be objectified, and I think it’s really freaking sad that she had to wear those clothes in order for that not to happen. I would much rather have a Billie than a Britney in Rolling Stone situation.

I want to love her. I love her music and I enjoyed her documentary, especially how open she is about her mental health issues (watching her have a minor Tourette's episode was very scary to me). But now she's doing that young adult thing where she's gone waaaay up her own ass and yes, she is young and she has a platform and people want to hear from her. But the new article is really cringy. I'm going to try to enjoy the new album and avoid her press.

Her music makes me feel so old. I just don't get it at all. I feel like I’m being hoodwinked re: her music. There’s no “there” there.

I had said in her previous post that I never listened to her music. That isn't entirely true, I have heard snippets of her song Bad Guy, but I can't listen to it because someone did a remix of it with We are Number One from Lazy Town that is so good that it makes it impossible to listen to her original.

So, looks-wise, she went from the surly/constipated love child of Avril Lavigne and Fiona Apple to the surly/constipated love child of Marilyn Monroe and Scarlett Johanssen. Got it.
