One of my favourite actors. Also one (along with Michael K Williams) who caused a genuine heart hurt at the news of his death. His death wasn’t recent (but I’ve recently re-discovered this forum after 15 years away - hi everyone, would also love to discover who’s here from circa 2006 if there’s a sub-forum for that?) but would love to reminisce about his best moments onscreen. Mine include:
- The way he delivered the poignant line in Life of Pi “in the end, life is an exercise in letting go. But what always hurts… is not taking a moment to say goodbye”. - His incredible turn in the Gabriel Byrne psychiatrist show. - Piku (I’m not sure if non-Desi audiences would have seen this, but if you can get a sub-titled version I so recommend it if you want to see him playing the hot cute love interest. - The Lunchbox; it quite boggles the mind how he played this role - a tired retiree - a few years before Piku where he played the romantic lead with a lot of chemistry opposite Deepika, with minimal make-up to age up or down, simply a change in his carriage and mode of talking. - The Namesake; though since I can’t bear Kal Penn I turn it off once he exits the movie. - Hindi Medium; hilarious and sweet.
Tom Hanks (who I find quite overrated) endeared himself to me with a fabulous quote about Irfaan Khan being the coolest guy in any room, after they worked together.
Other fans here?

I loved him in The Lunchbox, and was so sad when I heard of his passing. His interview on NPR is worth a listen.
