Not a big follower of the Spanish Royals, but this video of Queen Letizia and her mother-in-law Queen Sophia is even on People - and it does look terse. This article covers Princess Marie Chantal (of course) tweeting her disapproval.

I was just coming to post this! Of course Michael K is all over this.

Spanish royals: They’re just like us! They too get into awkward, pursed-lips fights with their family members on Easter as your cousin films it all hoping that fists will fly because he’s always wanted to be on World Star. But instead of a cousin filming the Spanish royal tiff on Easter Sunday, the press did. Remind me to ask my mom how to say, “How uncouth!“, in Spanish.

THE QUEEN of England would never allow the cameras to capture a messy family scene. If she has a problem with a family member (mostly Prince Charles), she waits until the cameras are gone until she gives him 50 lashes with her pocketbook. But LA REINA of Spain (aka Queen Letizia, who is in the polka dot blouse) doesn’t give half a caca about people seeing a messy moment between her and her mother-in-law.

Things must be really bad if Letizia can't play nice in public. Jeez.

With the board's namesake making trouble, we should be discussing this! LOL at Marie-Chantal stirring it up.

Even though I'm not sure exactly what happened, I'm leaning Team Letizia on this one. I think she had a reason for not wanting Former Queen posing for solo pictures with her children, and Former Queen probably had been told this by Current Queen and did it anyway. And Letizia had to be covert about shutting it down because it was not possible to have a discussion about it in public.

Just a guess. But even if something else entirely was going on, Letizia is Queen and she's supposed to be in charge. And she's the mother so she's in charge of her children. Somehow I don't think Sofia ever fully relinquished her position to Letizia.

Sofia has an innocent victim look on her face, but I'm not buying it.

There's this 80s historical romance I love where the daughter/heroine coolly reminds her mother that she is now the wife of an earl and therefore outranks her (subtext: so suck it). That's what I saw in this, and like you said, she's the kids' mom, so until further notice, I'm Team Letizia.

I don’t think the girls, especially Leonor, liked being manhandled by their grandmother. Even Felipe throws her a look. She keeps pulling them aside for a picture. Letizia has every right to put a stop to actions that make her children uncomfortable. Marie-Chantal stirring the pot isn’t going to put Juan Carlos back on the throne nor make MC more royal than Letizia.

In the second video, I think Letizia may just be affectionately brushing the hair with her fingers since she does it to both girls. I still do that with WonderWoman.

What jumped out at me is that Leonor pushes Sofia's arm off her TWICE.

Nah, that thumb landed right on the forehead spot where Queen Sofia left her cooties. I'm surprised Leonor didn't stumble backwards from the force of Letizia's thumb wipe.

I think the arm remover was Little Sofia? It's hard to keep them straight. I noticed that she only pushed the arm away after the standoff started and Queen Sofia tried to shove them around. She seemed fine with it before that.

I've tried to think up a scenario where Letizia was trying to protect her children from...something. But it's hard to think up a reason why a kid can't tolerate posing for a photo with Grandma's arm around her.

I really don't get the hate for Letizia. She seems to be very hard working and professional-- like Princess Anne. Is it just a case of "who is this commoner hussy who over-stepped her place and became Queen?" Or is Letizia a rude and snobbish control freak who steps all over the minions, and therefore there's a reason to dislike her? (Is she like Mariah Carey?)

It looks to me like the kid was trying to get away from Sofia and she just kept grabbing on. Team Letizia!
