I went to see this over the weekend because I had heard so much about it and I assumed correctly that Emma Stone would be nominated for an Oscar for her part. This one has me mixed. On one hand it has great performances (Stone, Ruffalo, Defoe) with an incredible looking set and some truly weird but somehow fun music in the soundtrack. And the beginning thru about the first half I was really into it. Then just after the mid point the movie had Emma Stone's character getting her "emancipation" and it sort of bogged down for me. I went to a noon show and by the 2/3 point I was kind of checking my watch a couple of times. The last 10 minutes seemed sort of disjointed to me and kind of lowered my rating as a character which had never been really mentioned is suddenly brought to the forefront and for me unsettles what was up to that point a pretty good movie. I will have to watch it sometime later when it comes out on streaming to see if it gets better. I know that it will be talked about and I wouldn't be surprised to see Emma Stone win best actress oscar for her performance but as a whole I kind of give this movie 3/5 for the tacked on - for me - ending. Did anyone else see this yet?

I watched this last night and also have mixed feelings. It was interesting and obviously unique, but I can't say it was a particularly great movie. I found a lot of the support acting to be poor, which I always find distracting, though that may be the fault of the dialog. I have no problem with Emma Stone, but I am surprised she got an Oscar for this part. I didn't feel like it had much depth, she mostly just acted like a child. She definitely played the part well, and it was a completely un-self conscious performance that I'm not sure all actors could perform, but there just wasn't much there there if that makes sense.

I saw it when it came out and I had mixed feelings too. It gave me things to think about and was very interesting visually, but I liked The Lobster and The Favorite (by the same director) better.

I understand that Bella's uninhibited attitude about sex was an important part of the plot, but I was surprised at Emma Stone's excessive (in my opinion) nudity. I think that's why she got an Oscar; adjusts tinfoil hat, it was an effort to get more actresses to go nude.
Mark Ruffalo cracked me up though.
