What are the policy for banning a poster vs closing a thread? It seems that the most heated threads gets closed before the trolls gets a smack down. Why is the toy taken away from those who play nice?  |

The decision to close a thread v. ban one poster is usually based on how problematic or potentially problematic the thread's subject is. If it seems, like in the OJ thread, or in the now-defunct Brangelinafer threads, that, in general, things keep drifting toward contentious, inflammatory, or non-productive discussions, we decide amongst us to close the thread. Sometimes we have tried banning a poster who seems to be causing a lot of the problems, only to discover that the same old problems keep cropping up. Other times, it's just, "Fuck it, we ain't gonna deal with THIS bullshit any more" and we'll lock the thread. There's never any one ideal/perfect solution, so we make the best decisions we can giving the individual threads and problems therein. Make sense?

It's similar to how you do make URLs blue: Type in [ color=white ]enter your text here. [ /color ]
And remove the spaces.
Here is an example:
Start text I'd like to kick somebody in the throat today! End Text
