I wonder if she really is broke. Last time I heard she was broke, the next day I saw a pic of her in a magazine buying boots for $650 or something.

I think when Frances Bean is older, she is going to be really angry at Courtney for selling Kurt's things. But then, I doubt Courtney cares about that.

I doubt Frances will care. Courtney says she's keeping the sweater, the guitar and the Teen Spirit lyrics. Those will be worth a ton of dough someday. Honestly, we have no idea how Frances feels about her father. He's the selfish junkie arsehole who blew his head off before she was old enough to form any memories of him. She may have conflicted feelings about the guy and might not want to look at boxes of his old crap, either.

Thanks for those Bette Davis! Courtney is such a jerk, yeah, Dave's taking away your kid's money. Meanwhile, how much of Frances Bean's money has she snorted over the years?

I seem to remember a few years back, when CL wanted to release some music and Dave and Chris wouldn't let her. She said something about Dave taking the food out of Frances Bean's mouth.

Actually, it was just the opposite--Dave and Krist wanted to mix all of Nirvana's old/unfinished stuff and release it all at once as a box set. Courtney wanted to hang onto the stuff and just release it a little at a time--like put out a "Greatest Hits" CD with one new song on it, stuff like that. (And she wanted her boyfriend at the time, who wasn't even a musician but a record exec, to mix it.) She was going to try to get as much mileage/publicity (for herself, of course) out of every little bit. I remember when she was going around saying about the song "You Know You're Right" that she was "sitting on the Holy F------g Grail of Rock and Roll!". As it turns out, it was an ok song that nobody cared about.

Courtney didn't want to let go of the Nirvana stuff because she was using it as leverage with her record company to get out of her record deal. And she used "Smells Like Teen Spirit" to get an audition with Baz Luhrmann for the lead in Moulin Rouge because he wanted to use the song. (Nicole Kidman got the part, so Baz did not get the song.)

BTW, on the "Kurt wrote Hole's music" angle--I just found out recently that one of my favorite Hole Songs "Old Age" was written by Kurt. That has always been a "Hole song" and on the release it was credited as "written by Hole". Then recently somebody found an old demo of Kurt's from 1991 of that song (the lyrics are different because Kurt didn't do much in the way of lyrics on his demos).

Deluded much? I hadn't heard that one before. She may have the rights to Teen Spirit but she is/was still one unattractive woman. On what planet would Baz have cast Courtney Love as Satine over Nicole Kidman?

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" was in Moulin Rouge. It was sung by all the tuxedoed men in the audience as a mash-up with "Lady Marmalade" sung by the Moulin Rouge showgirls.

I didn't realize she let Baz use the song in the end. But Baz did an interview where he was asked why he had extensively auditioned Courtney for the part of Satine (as in, WTF???) and he said he had to in order to get Smells Like Teen Spirit. And then he added a bunch of gushy stuff about how once he got to know Courtney through the audition process, he fell in love with her and thinks she's brilliant, blah blah blah.
