BTW, on the "Kurt wrote Hole's music" angle--I just found out recently that one of my favorite Hole Songs "Old Age" was written by Kurt. That has always been a "Hole song" and on the release it was credited as "written by Hole". Then recently somebody found an old demo of Kurt's from 1991 of that song (the lyrics are different because Kurt didn't do much in the way of lyrics on his demos).

It's not that recent, it's been around for quite awhile, so she had to admit it. Everyone knows he wrote a lot of the music on Live Through This. Oh, but don't say it out loud, because someone will call you sexist.

I've never understood this argument. So what if he did? They were two musicians who were married. I think it would be weird if they didn't work together on anything. Courtney has always worked with other musicians on her albums.

I've never bought that argument anyway. I used to collect Hole bootlegs and you can hear bits and pieces of what would eventually become Live Through This songs on them. The beginning of Credit in the Straight World is played a lot, and these bootlegs are from 1990-1992.

Except it's not so much "worked together" as he wrote her stuff and she took credit for it. That's relevant when you are assessing Courtney as a songwriter, because there was a time when people were saying she was this genius songwriter. That time is over, obviously.

I guess we'll agree to disagree because I don't believe Kurt wrote much of Hole's material. If we are assigning jobs I'd have to say Eric wrote a lot on Live Through This.

Don't get me wrong, I really hate what Courtney is today. I'm just fond of her early '90s fuck you persona. Everyone hated her because she married Kurt and she knew it. She wasn't a quiet mousey little wife that I think everyone wants and expected. She was loud, annoying and in your face. When Kurt blew his head off she didn't sit quietly in the house and wear black and mourn like a good little wife. She went on tour and was a mess. She sung lyrics like "I'm the disease that should have died" and cried on stage. Kurt was a junkie who blew his head off and left his wife and child and now millions fall all over themselves to say that he was some kind of messiah. I will always have a soft spot for her because I don't think anyone can fully understand what it is like to lose a spouse to suicide. Especially somone as worshipped as Kurt is. She had to deal with his death and then people saying she murdered him. She had a baby daughter that she now had to raise alone. She's a complete mess of a human being but thats why I like her. I'll just always have a fondness for her.

Wasn't Marilyn Manson supposed to have one of his songs in 'Moulin Rouge' and Courtney put the kibosh on that? The way I heard it, she said you can't have Nirvana songs unless you refuse Manson's songs.

crow- agree with everything you wrote. I read the kurt cobain biography "Heavier than heaven" and was struck by the fact that cobain was a heroin addict before he met courtney-she did heroin because cobain needed a shooking partner. It seemed like they really did complement each other.
I could relate to a lot of her anger, too.

Yeah, well of course it's natural they would write together. But she tried to hide that fact and take the credit. Of course, she's always written with other musicians after he died, the fact is, she can't write music, just lyrics. I would have respected her a lot more if she just admitted it.

You know you must take HtH with a grain of salt. It was totally told from CL's perspective, the author kissed her ass so he could have access to Kurt's journals and such. I totally don't believe that she only did heroin to appease him. He was a much more timid personality than her, he needed her as a jumping partner and she was more than willing, cuz, that's her.
