Kurt's sister, Kim, was also appointed to be one of Frances' guardians. At one point, when Courtney lost custody of Frances, the girl was placed with Courtney's stepfather, Frank Rodriguez. Mr. Rodriguez has been described as a good man and a stable influence.
It's not unheard of for a child to rise above a chaotic childhood. Courtney's grandma, Paula Fox, is an example. Her pal, Drew Barrymore, is another one. I'm not writing off Frances at this point.

Yeah, I gotta agree with you on that, even if she escapes the drugs, alcohol and mental illness. She's clearly not planning on going to college or pursuing any kind of normal career. Her life goal seems to be the same as her mother's: be famous by any means at your disposal. Right now she just looks to me like a Kardashian with tattoos.

I just don't get a Rumer Willis/Peaches Geldof from this girl. She very rarely turns up on gossip Web sites. She legally freed herself from her famewhoring mother. She was an intern at Rolling Stone but kept a low profile. We actually don't know what she's been up to. Perhaps she has some ideas of what she wants to do with her life, but isn't advertising her life's goals.
When she starts talking about a reality show or hooks up with John Mayer, then I'll be worried.

Except the story about how she called in sick all the time and refused to get coffee for people like a normal intern. And one internship does not amount to much.
It's probably hard to motivate yourself to work when you've inherited millions of dollars, but I don't think Courtney or anyone else has instilled any kind of work ethic in her. However I do think she picked up her mother's awareness that it's a lot cooler to become famous by not going through the mainstream, hence the tattoos and not showing up on every red carpet (yet).

Where did you read about Frances calling in sick? Just curious.
Frances is 18 or 19 now. Will she be another Paris or LiLo? Remains to be seen.
In her tweets, she did seem kind of mature and clear-headed.

NY Post about the internship[/color]. The minimum age for a Rolling Stone internship is 18 and it is notorious for being one of the worst internships in the magazine industry (no pay, long hours, menial work only, and Jann Wenner treats you like he's Col. Hans Landa). But clearly 15 year old Frances Bean Cobain had something different going on.

Isn't she a budding artist? I thought I read somewhere that she had a small showing at a gallery.
I would not be surprised if she turns out either way. She's got a double whammy of DNA plus crappy childhood with insane mother. I hope she has some trustworthy adult mentors in her life who can guide her.

I think it would be cool if she looked at both parents, said, no thank you, and decided she was NOT going to go that route.

I'm actually a fan of both her parents (although Courtney makes it hard), but I think it's impressive that she hasn't been on many red carpets or started her own line of clothing a la Lourdes Ciccone.

I hope she doesn't screw up her life given her background. Staying out of the public eye would be a great first step for her. And basically looking at whatever Courtney does/has done and do the opposite.
