Dunno about that- I think I remember an interview for BB where he was talking about how to act drugged up when you haven't taken Drug X (for Sid and Nancy, I assume). He's been pretty honest about everything else he's ingested, I don't see why he would lie now.

In Uma Thurman's E! True Hollywood Story they said she and Gary Oldman divorced because he was an alcoholic. A raging alcoholic. He got a DUI and couldn't drive, but I never heard that he beat her. Can anyone remember where they heard it?

Not sure I buy the BI/gay rumor about him. Not that it's any "proof" but Gary has dated many gorgeous women and still does. He dated Isabella Rossellini for years.
His last marriage to a woman he met in rehab (and had 2 kids with) ended with lots of accusasions of domestic abuse and alcoholism/drug abuse. The guy has serious anger and substance abuse issues.

Pity, he's the greatest actor ever.

I know I am TOTALLY in the minority here, but I am one of the few people who don't think he's that great of an actor.
He does interesting character studies, sure, and disappears completely into that character's world. But there's no soul, no humanity--the exact opposite of someone Ben Kingsley, who makes you feel so deeply for the people he portrays. Gary just leaves me cold.

The accusations made by his last wife are a bit fishy- the custody hearings went on for a long time, at her instigation, and at the last one, 2 years after the divorce, she said he was physically abusing the kids and had started drinking again, all of which was thrown out by the judge and resulted in her visiting rights getting cut back. I think she tried to sue, if that's the correct term, David Fincher for custody of their daughter the year before with the same result. I think it was in the Sunday Mirror back when the court case was on that he and Fincher had teamed up to fight the custody claims.

Anyway, there's some details about it in cache form here and here, the last of which should probably be taken with a grain of salt, considering the judge threw it out.

It seems like a divorce gone badly septic to me.

ETA: Mind you, he still seems like a very angry man (Nil By Mouth being a very angry film). I wouldn't wanna piss him off.

I love the fact that he pops up in unexpected movies. I recently saw Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, and was surprised he played the idiot savant to Tim Roth's straight man.
