I had no idea who she was when I went to "Boys Don't Cry," but I was so blown away by that performance and the tragedy of Brandon Teena's life. I don't know if she deserved an Oscar for "Million Dollar Baby" but she was damn good in it.

I sort of want to see Amelia for the history, but Richard Gere kind of looks like her grandfather in it. I think he's a handsome man, but he doesn't look right with these younger actresses.

I thought she was great in Boys Don't Cry. Didn't see Million Dollar Baby. She isn't on my radar much, but I do think she'll be right there at Oscar time for Amelia.
I was irritated and lost a ton of respect for her when she told VF about C. Lowe's drug problem. It was a low move, and didn't conjure one ounce of sympathy for her.

I always wondered why she felt she needed sympathy during the divorce.
Because they were a somewhat private couple and I knew little about them, I thought the "irreconcilable differences" explanation would have been acceptable without anyone in the public batting an eye.
I didn't think less of her that she had decided to divorce him. But I did think less of her when she outed his addiction problems and it coloured my perception of her as a person. I don't think I mocked her before she did that to her ex-husband.
On another note, the only two performances I liked were the ones she won Oscars for. Other than that, I think she's bad in EVERYTHING ELSE. Like majorly bad.

On another note, the only two performances I liked were the ones she won Oscars for. Other than that, I think she's bad in EVERYTHING ELSE. Like majorly bad. Yes, I know the Oscars get it wrong a lot, and I should hate those career type of Oscars that win, since it should go to the best performance. However, I'm like the other Greecies and wonder how she has two Oscars and two leading ones at that (not that I think the leading one is better, but many people think it is), when a lot of other people don't. I thought she deserved it for her first one, and while I thought she was good in Millon Dollar Baby, I wouldn't have given her a second won since I think she has a very narrow range. Of course, when she's in that range, she's wonderful, but I think it's unfortunate that her limited range happens to be the type that gets award attention when a lot of other actors are slammed for not changing it up. (I am so dreading her possibly getting a third Oscar nomination for Amelia, because she looks like she's going to be in her zone again.) Like I'm definitely not a big Jennifer Aniston fan and feel that she should change it up a bit more, but comparing the two, I actually thought Aniston's done a better job at Swank with range although those were in smaller parts, so it may not be totally fair to Swank to do that.

I always wondered why she felt she needed sympathy during the divorce. Because she was cheating on her husband with her manager. And she outed her husband's addiction (and didn't bother to tell him she was going to it) to deflect from that (it didn't) or as a justification (it isn't). People cheat all the time and that is between them, their spouse, and their God. No, what mostly bothered me was the "throwing her husband under the bus" to get the cover of Vanity Fair crap she pulled.

That's right, InnocentOne. I forgot she was caught kissing her manager.

I kind of appreciate that even though Hilary Swank is no Hollywood beauty, she hasn't fucked up her face with plastic surgery/orange tanning/peroxide/whatever in an effort to get there. I'd imagine it takes a certain willpower to withstand the pressure to conform.
But, the Vanity Fair interview was such a complete asshole move...
