Aww man. Me too. I always thought they would be able to whether the storm of her being an Oscar winner and him being. Um. Chad Lowe. I saw them as sort of the reverse sex version of Tom Hanks and his wife (who's name I always forget much like Chad Lowe's).
Even though she looks like a man. I like Hillary.

Aw, that one kinda surprises me too. They've been together for a long time - I think they started dating when she was 18 or 19.
I like Hilary Swank too - she's one of those celebs that I like for no good reason and it would probably take a lot to make me not like her. Plus her name is fun to say - "Swank!"

I like them both but I've expected a split for years. I'm surprised it took this long. I just think it's too hard for a hollywood marriage to survive very different career trajectories unless one spouse willingly puts their aspirations on hold.

Tom's wife is Rita Wilson. (Whom I also like, she seems pretty nice).
I always think of Hilary Swank as the snotty friend Kimberly in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. "Get out of my facial!"

Kind of off-topic but... I just looked Chad Lowe up on Imdb. It says he was someone named Bill Stone in the movie Unfaithful. Can anyone remind me who that character was in the movie? I just can' recall...

He was the guy Richard Gere fired who had seen the lover shove his hand down the wife's pants in a cafe.

I like them both but I've expected a split for years. I'm surprised it took this long. I just think it's too hard for a hollywood marriage to survive very different career trajectories unless one spouse willingly puts their aspirations on hold. Very good point. I guess I just figured that because it hadn't happened yet it wasn't ever going to happen and Chad was okay with everything. I think it is tough for any couple when one has a very successful career and the other is only doing "okay" in their field - and it must be twice as hard when both people are in the same highly competitive field. I guess he did finally get tired of staring at Hilary's two Oscars sitting on the shelf and the probably endless stream of scripts she gets, while he eeks out a guest spot on Medium. I guess I always liked them because they seemed so low-key. Even though Hilary is a two-time Oscar winner, she isn't in the tabloids every other day. She seems one of the rare actresses her age who seems more concerned about being an "actress" than being a "celebrity." Plus, I admit that I find Hilary kind of dorky and I find that very endearing. Also she knits and I knit - we're both knitting dorks.

Count me in on the knitting dorkiness, kostgard...!
I wasn't very surprised by this split although they were likeable as a couple. I just got the sense that they were not a balanced pair career-wise and that it would affect their relationship. That and the not thanking him bit...the kiss of death for any Hollywood couple.
