K, I know I am not supposed to do this, but her career has been really amazing. Two time Oscar winner and she pays it forward too.

What does paying it forward mean? It means passing on goodwill. For example, someone does something nice for you and all they ask is that you do something nice for someone else in return. Or they don't ask but you remember the kindness and it inspires you to do something kind for someone.

Despite her faults, I like her. I loved her in many of her movies and she's very knowledgeable and articulate about women's issues (despite or because of her own past). That said, I hated Monster in Law.

Jane Fonda only "pays it forward" when it benefits Jane Fonda's current persona.
See, I don't care if someone wants to change personalities the way most of us change clothes. But when she gets all preachy about it, or when it's all fake, then I take issue.
Example: She becomes the Queen of Fitness, selling millions of dollars worth of videos on the premise that if you follow her fitness routine, you can have the same rockin' bod she has. The problem is, she was bulimic and she had plastic surgery. So it's all a lie.

She picked out the engagement ring her son gave to his fiancee and bragged about it to the New York Post. I see trouble ahead for that marriage.

I have a very dear friend who was in special forces in Viet Nam and who can't say "Jane Fonda" without just about choking. He can't watch any movie that she's in. He came back from virtual hell and was literally spit on the second he set foot on "home" ground. He knows many other vets who despise her for making their years of misery over there almost worthless in the eyes of the rest of the country.
You know the expression "Just enough brains to be dangerous?" That's how I see her.
Of course, when it comes to her galvanizing people into taking hatred out on the troops in Nam -- She said she was sorry as she moved on to her next thing -- Fitness Queen. I think after that it was Trophy Wife.

My dad had a similar experience to your friend Bonsai, he came back from two tours to find that no one gave a shit for what he'd suffered over there. He despises her with every fiber of his being. I don't hate her quite as much but I've never liked her. She just seems so self-satisfied and smug.

I cringe every time I hear her voice, I really do and I feel very bad for the poor girl that is marrying her son.

Even though the whole "she gave names of prisoners to the Viet Cong" thing was fake, I still find her whole attitude towards the vets at the time despicable. It was one thing to be against the war-it was entirely another to side with the Viet fucking Cong.
And she's only appologized because she got bad press. She doesn't strike me was being very bright, or self aware, although she IS very devious. She's good at doing what's good for Jane Fonda, but she's a dumbass.
ETA: I didn't mean to bring up politics again. Only in the context that Jane Fonda took it too far-I think she was just trying to get attention, yet again, and went the wrong way.
