I've searched for prior threads and found nothing, so I hope this is okay. Robert Downey Jr. is one of my favorite actors, even though he's beyond screwed up. I don't think I've seen a single movie where I didn't appreciate his performance. And that includes the dreadful Ally McBeal.
I've always thought it ironic that his life ended up paralleling that of his character in Less than Zero. As a teenager, I loved that film but I had no idea it would be such a portend of things to come in his own life.
I saw recent photos of him in some magazine (whose name I can't remember now, but he was wearing a $4,300 Gucci bathrobe), and he was talking about his "bad boy image." Unfortunately, I didn't have time to read the article. (If anyone can clue me in, or provide a link, I'd be most grateful.) I really hope he's managed to defeat his demons.
Talk about one of the most talented and screwed up young(ish) actors here.

Favorite actor ever. Love him. Love his work, love his attitude, love his intelligence and I think he's sexy as hell. I'm thrilled that he seems to have gotten to the root of his problem with drug/alcohol abuse and is treating it and dealing with it in what seems like a healthy way, and it's great to see him getting roles again. Although he was consistently working throughout all of his troubles, no one in the industry really wanted to take a chance on him...huge liability. I believe I read a while back that they finally diagnosed him with a combination of something like attention deficit and borderline personality disorder, which seemed to really hinder him in the process of kicking his demons. I've seen him with his wife, producer Susan Levin, and I think that he places quite a bit of that saving grace on her presence in his life, so I really hope for his sake (and the sake of their relationship) that what he has with her is genuine and lasts. And embarrassingly enough, when I was 17 and he was in the midst of going in and out of prison and court dates I wrote a song about him, which I thought about sending...but...yeah. Restraining order. Favorite movies are Home for the Holidays (he was way strung out during the filming of this one) and Two Girls and a Guy, the unrated version of couse. [/end crazy fan rant]

Not dead? Phew.
I had a long and ultimately frustrating relationship with a guy who looked just like RDJr. It makes me want to hate him, but I just can't.

I just watched Soapdish the other day. He's so great in that. He's phenomenal in any movie though. I think about five people saw the Singing Detective (including myself), but he was really good in that. The movie was less than stellar (it had one half of TomKat in it!), but he gave a great performance.
Good to see he's still kickin it and not dead, which was my first thought. That or back in rehab.

I love him. I forgot he was going to be on Inside the Actor's Studio, though, and missed it. Damn!

I also love him in Soapdish and Home for the Holidays.
He is cute in that way that I'd be attracted to in college. Like there's something messed about him and at times he seems vaguely gay but I can't resist. And in that sentence I told you way too much about my relationships in college. Sigh.

Brilliant as Charlie Chaplin. Should have gotten the Oscar.

He was great as well in Good NIght and Good Luck. I wish he could have had more screen time.

Sorry, but I think he's pathetic.
If he was in any other industry, nobody would put up with his druggie behavior, but Hollywood just keeps giving him chance after chance, and time and time again he keeps blowing it. So he had a less-than-perfect childhood-yeah, get in line, Robert! I'm sick of him using that as an excuse to still do drugs a good 30 years later. He needs to grow up already.

I think he has grown up though. I haven't heard anything about him doing drugs in quite a few years now.
