I know, I saw over in the Celebrity Death Pool thread. So sad, I loved his show when I was a kid.

Loved, loved, loved him. A good guy with a really pleasant personality. He was such a good interviewer, too ... he really knew how to get his guests to open up. RIP, Mike.
(I can hear the theme song in my head ... heh!)

I just loved him and his show when I was growing up. He was a true "class act." Sounds like he was holding strong up towards the end, playing golf just a few weeks ago. Thanks for the memories Mr. Douglas.
from the linked article:
"Even when America was getting kind of angry in the 1960s and 1970s, his show was sort of an oasis of politeness," Brooks said. "It got you away from some of the turmoil in life."
It certainly did.

I always loved his show; I liked him even more when I read his autobiography and he wrote so beautifully about his love for his wife. He was a seriously stand-up guy. I'll imagine him hanging out in Heaven's greenroom with my mom and Warren Zevon (cause I think everyone's friends in heaven).
Edited because I read the book awhile ago and could have sworn that his wife died, but published quotes make that impossible. Oh, well, he can play bingo with my Nana McEwen until his wife gets there. (Warning, Mike: Lucy cheats!)

NO! And this is one of those threads where I didn't see the "RIP" coming! Agree and agree. I used to watch his show after school starting when I was 7. I loved him—and by all accounts, he really was a nice and decent guy. In other words, he wouldn't last five minutes on TV today. I also loved his super groovy set! RIP, Mike Douglas.

Wow, I loved his talk show even though I was a kid. He's an interviewer that Tyra and O could take notes from. He ALWAYS let his guests finish their sentences. RIP Mike.

Watching Mike Douglas after school, those were good times. I happened to catch Larry King giving Kira his 2 cents worth about Mike on CNN. Larry made the comment that "he wasn't the most precise/insightful interviewer, but he...". What Larry? Mr. Kettle is on line 1 and he wants to speak to you. Jeez, talk about backhanded compliments. Shut up gramps!
It is funny what things stick in your mind as a kid. I remember one specific show when Mike Douglas had Kristi MacNicol on and she was talking about her brother Jimmy being a shoe in for the role of either Alonso or Mary's hubbie on Little House. Apparently, her brother was asked to pass a pen or pencil to someone and instead shot it through the air like a dart and missed Melissa Sue Anderson's eye by a centimetre. As a result, he lost the part because allegedly Melissa complained about the incident. Kristi proceded to call Melissa a whiny suck for it and it didn't even touch her. As a kid I thought "Shut up Kristi, he could have put an eye out!". Hehehehe. Good times.

Loved him in Basic Instinct. Greed is good y'all Hee! I could never remember the difference between he and Merv Griffin. That's not a put down of either of them -- I've just never been a talk show fan.
