I'm not into his music whatsoever, I don't get the appeal.

I don't like his music either, excepting Space Oddity and the Labyrinth soundtrack. I appreciate him mainly as an actor. I remember being shocked to see him in The Last Temptation of Christ, his Pontius Pilot was awesome.

I haven't really heard his stuff, but I do really like "I'm Afraid Of Americans" - then again, that would tend to happen after watching the video approximately 93849283 times.
I think he's good-looking now, not so much when he was younger. The only thing I've seen him in was Basquiat, in which he played Andy Warhol, complete with out-of-control wig.

I was listening to Bowie's early music as a young child due to my older brothers playing it. Heroes is a great tune, Panic in Detroit, it goes on and on. "I'm Afriad of Americans" is really good too.
I've never stopped following him and I think his charisma is just incredible. As someone said, when he is onscreen , you just can't stop looking at him no matter who else is next to him. That is a commanding and rare stage presence.

His cameo in "Zoolander" was one my favorite scenes. IMHO, I enjoy him better as an actor than a singer.
He has this gentlemanly, classy air about him. It's just so swoon-worthy. It makes me want to have random dance-offs which he could judge all the time.

"Gentlemanly", "classy" and Ziggy Stardust somehow do not come tohether for me. That said, I really like Bowie. Have for years. "Let's Dance" is like a soundtrack to my early teens. As for acting, I loved him "Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence" (great, great movie). And "Labyrinth" is such fun!

I'm ambivalent about Bowie's music, I feel like a lot of it is better in theory than it is in practice. Like, an album based around 1984 is a really cool idea, but a lot of songs on Diamond Dogs are muddled messes. (Although the songs from DD that I like, I really like -- "Candidate," "Big Brother," that skeleton song and even the goofily disco-y "1984".)
He's one of the few artists who really benefit from Greatest Hits albums because, for me at least, his career really needs to be condensed down into the good stuff. I do really love Changes.
Just my opinion though. Love him as an actor, he definitely has that screen presence going on. My favorite performance of his was in Basquiat, when he played Andy Warhol. So perfectly loopy.

Phew! I saw the thread and thought something had happened to my beloved Bowie. He's lovely and brilliant in so many areas, and funny too. If there is a heaven, it will include space for me at the table between Bowie and Depp.

I'm not a big fan of the songs, but the Ziggy Stardust era fascinates me. Bowie has said that the whole thing got way out of control, to the point where it was messing with his sanity.
"Young Americans" is one of the best songs ever written. Bowie gets a lifetime pass for that song and for "Golden Years."
