She looks like an idiot in those pics. NP is NOT edgy, no matter how much she tries. She's so boring.

I will never understand the appeal of Natalie Portman. Not that great of an actress (with the exception of The Professional) and really not that striking. Pretty yes, but no prettier than any number of Hollywood starlets and wannabe Hollywood starlets for that matter.

I think that in the roles she did when she was younger, she demonstrated a lot of talent in a mature, disciplined kind of way. In Beautiful Girls, she was very good because her performance was honest and sincere without being sappy or cutesy. She showed an unusal level of talent at that age, so I think the reputation has just stuck with her as she's gotten older and is no longer all that different from many talented actresses.

Word, word, word, to what you wrote. For many years, I just loved her for her work in Beautiful Girls which is one of my favorite movies. Then I woke up one day and realized that she hasn't impressed me since.

I think she was very good in The Professional/Leon, Beautiful Girls (I heart this movie also), Garden State and Closer. I agree she hasn't matured as much since her days as a teenager. But not too many actresses can escape the same mannerisms, face espressions curse. Julia Roberts is the biggest example and she's supposed to be one of the greatest actresses in history. Whatever.
As per off-screen, I don't see her as pretentious or stuck-up at all. Yes she went to Harvard, people make it out to be like every time she mentions Harvard she's bragging about her education. I don't see that way. Many actresses went to Ivy League Schools ( Brooke Shields, Jodie Foster, Claire Danes etc.) and I applaud them for wanting to continue education and not being trapped in HW lifestyle and do just that.
I like the fact that she tries to keep a low profile, still hangs out with her college buddies and leads a normal life outside of HW glamor. Did I mention that she dated Gabriel Garcia Bernal? yeah, that makes her hotter too.

I don't hold that against them...going to Ivy League schools. I think that's a great thing. As opposed to actresses like Kate Bosworth, who likes to say she is going to Princeton but has deferred for four years for a lackluster career.
