Okay, I'm suddenly remembering another story about "Addams Family Values." If I'm remembering this correctly, there was some issue with the insurance to cover him because he was already ill, and there was some discussion of replacing him to save on the insurance costs, and Angelica Huston and Christina Ricci and basically everyone else said they would not do the movie without him, so the studio paid the insurance and shut up. And for some reason I'm recalling that it was the studio that was balking at paying the insurance, and not the producers - they were in the "We're not making the movie without Raul" camp. I'm not entirely sure this is a true story, but I just remembered it so thought I'd share to keep the thread going

Such a talented, wonderful actor.
True confession: he was HOT in that crappy Tequila Sunrise as the drug overlord. You can smoke dope and sing to me all night, Raul.

Oh Raul, Raul, Raul. I'm nearly weeping, I still miss that man so much. He smoldered on-screen like no one else, and no one since. I loved him in the way underrated Moon over Parador, in which he played the bleached-blonde psychotic chief-of-police who forces a bit actor (Richard Dreyfuss) to fill in for the newly dead dictator of a banana republic country until a coup can be engineered. "Play the part, or I'll kill you." Hee!

I never, ever would have thought that Gomez Addams could have been sexy. John Astin's Gomez was funny and endearing, but Raul Julia's Gomez - Wow!
Years ago I saw part of a PBS show called "Kiss Me Petruchio". (Unfortunately, I missed the beginning). It was about the Shakespeare in the Park production of "Taming of the Shrew" which starred Raul Julia and Meryl Streep. It intermixed clips from an actual performance with interviews with RJ and MS. I still remember his "take" on Petruchio and WHY he behaves as he did.
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see this show again. I have such a clear memory of it.
