I loved Ellen at the Oscars. I thought she did a great job. Hope she does it again next year.

I thought she did a passable job at the Oscars. I like her, but I thought her hosting was more Emmy-geared than Oscar-geared - it just didn't seem "big" enough to me.
I preferred both Steve Martin and Jon Stewart; however, I thought Ellen was far better than both Billy Crystal and Whoopie.
Personally? I'd like Colbert or Seinfeld to host. I like far more snark than Ellen brought to the table.

True, I would definitely be up for watching either Colbert or Seinfeld. I don't think they'd ever let Colbert do it, though. I could see him saying something "offensive" while in character and it turning into something. He's a little too real for Hollywood's Biggest Night. There has to be at least a twinge of celebrity ass-kissing happening on that stage.
I thought Ellen was good but I am biased because I love her!
Dear god, please never let Billy do it again. I am sooooooo sick of that dude. What a bore.

I thought she was a boring mess, to be honest. She had very few jokes, her entire opening was meandering and without punchline, and she brought nothing to the table besides her not-actually-funny- trademark dorky dance with the (equally not actually funny and pointless) choir. Also, they didn't have her on stage very often, at all. She was barely a host, though I don't know why.
Colbert (in character) would be a nightmare, similar to how Stewart was a bit too real and too much. Anyways, I hope Ellen doesn't host again next year.

I thought she'd be more entertaing than she was. It was a disappointment, IMHO.

Aww, I feel so bad for her with the whole dog adoption situation. Link I really do think she tried to do the right thing, and she's so broken up about it.

I feel bad for her too. I thought it was a little odd for her to be breaking down on national television about it, but it's sweet that she cares so much. Maybe now that the situation has gotten so much attention, her hairstylist's family can get the dog back. It's so sad for a dog to be taken away from a family who really loves and wants him.

I'm sure she meant well, but that clause is standard issue with every rescue group I've been involved with. It was clearly expressed to me when I got my dog. It may seem heavy handed, but it's meant to ensure that the dogs go to appropriate homes (granted, it's people making the decisions so sometimes they may make poor judgments in either allowing or disallowing an adoption). People handing off dogs to friends/ family/ neighbors is how a lot of dogs eventually end up in shelters. Ellen should have been aware of the stipulation in the contract and followed it.
Odds are after a few procedures are cleared up, the dog will end up with the hairdresser and her family, especially with the attention the story's getting and with people starting petitions and campaigns against the group.

Yeah, I know it's standard, but I still think it's silly to take a dog away completely if it's with a loving home. It seems like the best way to deal with the problem would have been to have Ellen's hairstylist fill out all the necessary paperwork that Ellen filled out, verify that she is a good candidate for ownership of the dog, and then transfer ownership to her. Taking the dog away immediately just seems unnecessarily cruel, both to the dog and the family. I don't know how long the family had him, but if it was long enough for them to get attached, then the dog was probably adjusted to the home.
