Ioan recently caught my eye and is currently my top celebrity crush. For some reason when I first watched Arthur I thought he was cute, but exactly how cute he was didn't really sink in. Then I stumbled onto the Hornblower series, which sent me racing back to Arthur to see how Ioan looked all grown up, and thus a celebrity crush was born. The funny thing is, while he was very young looking in Hornblower, he's recently aged quite a bit. He's only 31, but actually looks older than he is now, which I attribute to a little bit of rough living.

Oh man, Ioan, Ioan, Ioan...
I loved him in Hornblower and I will still fanatically watch that series till it dies. Gush gush gush! For a series that expansive, it's pretty impressive that the things I don't like about it can be counted on one hand.
However, I'm not sure how much of Ioan I can handle outside of Hornblower. More and more I look at what he's doing and wince. Maybe I'm just not the right audience, but I saw King Arthur and it hurt. And I'm no comics fan so when I see the Fantastic Four I think "Oh no, another superhero movie?"

I just knew you would start this thread, Colette!
I have loved Ioan ever since I saw him in "The Duel", the first episode of the Hornblower series to air on A&E. (I'd like to saw I loved him since Titanic, but I really didn't even notice him in that film until after Hornblower!) The only contemporary roles I have seen him in that I really liked was in the BBC production of Warriors. He was too cute in the "Masturbation" episode of Love in the 21st Century as well as in Very Annie Mary. I haven't seen The Gathering or Happy Now, though so those could be quite good.
If you haven't seen Solomon and Gaenor, you must. His character makes me so angry at times, but he still breaks my heart.
Like you livviebway, I have cringed at his recent movie choices. 102 Dalmations? King Arthur had such potential, but, alas, it fell far short of my expectations. As for Fantastic Four, I am hopeful and doubtful at the same time.
But he sure is pretty.

Mmmm, Ioan.
He seems a bit smarmy in interviews, but I can concentrate on the Hornblower and Lancelot pretty.

I've never seen him interviewed. It sounds like maybe I don't want to. Watching interviews was what killed my Gerard Butler love.
[small voice] I really like Arthur. I know I'm not supposed to, but I really really do. [/small voice]
Thanks for all the great movie recommendations, indygirl.
Runs off to Netflix.

I fell in love with him when Hornblower first aired. While I prefer him in period pieces, I will watch anything that I see he is in. I really want to see Very Annie Mary, but I haven't been able to get my hands on it yet.
Colette, I love that picture of him. As adorable as he was in the first four Hornblower movies, I prefer the more mature, hardened Ioan of late.

Not work safe. But just barely. It's not in bad taste. And, yummy! But, strange.

I first saw Ioan Gruffudd in an early Hornblower episode, too. He was breathtakingly beautiful. I should have stopped there though because after five minutes, I realized that the object of my white-hot lust wasn't exactly overburdened with talent. Oh well. But I still have a warm spot in my heart for him (Hey, it was a good five minutes of crushing!) if only because reading about him led me to my current secret boyfriend (Yes, I lead a sad life, why do you ask?), Matthew Rhys.
But to be fair, Ioan was good as Hob in Very Annie Mary (OK, OK, so I bought it for Matthew Rhys...), but the part wasn't more than about five minutes. Maybe he's just better in small doses. Or just standing still.

I was debating starting a Hornblowerthread on FT before it closed, but I couldn't decide if it was going to be TV or Movies. And now it's too late. I could do it here, but since I'm afraid of posting in the wrong section, any suggestions?
Ahhh! The shower pic! That has been safely stowed on my harddrive for a couple years now and always brightens my day (ahem) whenever I run across it.

Livviebway, the TV section would be a perfect place for a Hornblower thread. I'd visit.
