Like I will always have a soft spot for Julia Roberts because of Pretty Woman, I will always have a soft spot for Sandra Bullock because of While You Were Sleeping. Agreed. It really is such a sweet and funny movie. I like that Bill Pullman gets the girl instead of getting dumped on Valentine's Day (Sleepless in Seattle). Mr. Joe...Fusco...Jr. I love that movie.

"He's still single!" "Shocking. " ETA: Tying this back to the subject of this thread: I just learned via IMDB that Julia was originally supposed to play Lucy in While You Were Sleeping! My mind is now blown.

There's a scene in America's Sweethearts that stands out to me - she's having dinner with John Cusack and you can pinpoint the exact moment where she stops playing her character and turns back into Julia Roberts. The big toothy smile, the exaggerated laugh, her manner of speaking.
I don't say that as a criticism, exactly, and I wonder if she did that accidentally. But it took me right out of the movie and I realized that Julia Roberts has to be Julia Roberts at all times.

I have, now that I've thought about it, walked our or stopped watching several Julia Roberts movies. I left "My Best Friend's Wedding" at the singing scene because I hated the film's misogyny (wait the college Junior has to leave school to marry that jerk?) then "America's Sweethearts" made me feel terrible. I had the stomach flu at the time, and I felt even WORSE after that movie.

My boyfriend at the time insisted that we walk out of My Best Friend's Wedding. I think it's the only movie I've ever walked out of.

I like Notting Hill. Not so much for Julia or Hugh but the characters around them. They made the movie.

I saw My Best Friend's Wedding in Ireland when I was doing a study abroad. I somehow managed to get attached to these dreary girls in the hostel who only wanted to go to the movies. I can't recall now if this was Galway or Cork, but whatever. I kept trying to convince myself that I was lucky to be able to watch a terrible movie abroad.
