I remember thinking it was kind of amusing when Benjamin Bratt popped up on 24 alongside Kiefer, because of the Julia connection.
Offscreen I don't doubt she can still be an asshole, but I agree that it's slightly refreshing that she seems to understand the value of shutting up and going away.

She gave such good gossip back in the day! Running off from her wedding to Keifer. Hooking up with his best friend. Surprise marrying Lyle Lovett then divorcing him. “Stick man.” “A Low Vera.” I guess it’s good for her that she’s settled down, but I miss the wilder Julia. I remember when she and Danny Moder got married, the invitations said "celebrate our Independence Day" because they were now free from his ex-wife (didn't Julia pay her money?). I have no idea why this is stuck in my brain, other than I dislike her so, but I actually googled and the NY Post confirms this was in her invitation.

WestEndGirl, that link takes me back to this page.
But yikes. The two of them were adults and thought that was appropriate? Yeesh. That says to me you're not mature enough to be getting married.

Let's not forget how she made Denzel's Oscar for "Training Day" all about her ("I love MY LIFE").

Here's one of the things about her that bugs me - I'm firing up my PVR'd movie, and America's Sweethearts was running before it, so I see the credits before mine starts - it lists "Julia Roberts' Costume Designer". She gets her very own costume designer, in a movie where she basically plays a shlub, the personal assistant to her sister the movie star, right? One can only imagine the negotiating that goes on for her every appearance.

I think Julia's relatively low-key when it comes to dressing for events. I remember the brouhaha one time when she had visible armpit hair at a premiere (it wasn't a political statement, she just didn't shave because she thought the sleeves on the dress would cover it) and those pictures were discussed for years and years.
When Julia was making Runaway Bride in 1999, Garry Marshall told her that her arms were so disgustingly fat on camera that she needed to go on a diet ASAP and lose 10 pounds. And she did. At the time, she was the biggest female movie star in the world and still subject to abusive micromanagement of her weight and appearance.
I'm sure there was a big committee of people involved in America's Sweethearts who had to make sure that Julia looked like Hollywood's version of frumpy (i.e., glasses and a tiny bit of padding to represent "obese") but not too frumpy so as to disgust the viewing audience with her grossness. It's not really something I'd blame on Julia herself, even if she was the one who thought it was necessary to have her character's clothes a specific way. That stuff is (or was) really important to her career whether she liked it or not.

I mean, Sandy was up front snort-laughing in that film. Another Benjamin Bratt connection, I just realized, lol.

Drew Barrymore had braces in Never Been Kissed! It's amazing we are still able to tolerate looking at these women after getting a glimpse of them in their hideous versions!
