Brutal! He ought to go down in American subversive history.

The 60 Minutes interview was sad. I feel for him.

He talked about the event that spurred him into comedy; his father and two brothers being killed when he was 10 years old. He said he started being funny then to cheer his mom up, and also because he felt so disconnected to everything all the other ten year-olds were doing.

That's awful. Was it a car crash?

No, a plane crash. A Googling reveals that Dr. James Colbert was killed in an Eastern Airlines plane crash near Charlotte, North Carolina in 1974 along with his sons Peter Colbert, 15, and Paul Colbert, 18.

I watched it live on C-Span, and was amazed. The guy has a steel pair, that's for sure. In a way his approach to comedy reminds me of the Smothers Brothers, in that sometimes what you say has more punch when you look like someone's accountant.
I first found out about his dad and his brothers while reading an interview he did in the New York Times. It was so out of nowhere I was stunned.

Holy shit. Poor guy! I had no idea he had such a tragic personal past.
Would it be inappropriate of me to say, now, that I think he's Teh Sex? Cuz I do.

I love that they're re-running "Klassic Kolbert" segments on the Daily Show now. That show just isn't the same with all those "new guys"...sniffle.
I'm still waiting on the Daily Show "Best Of" DVDs...Colbert's would be about 9 hours long. ;D
