Wow, I had totally forgotten about "6th Avenue Heartache." I loved that song. I think it was out my senior year of college.

I read that he recently got divorced after 14 or 15 years of marriage. !!!!!!!!!! My chance has finally come! I adore him.

I’ve been lurking ever since the Fametracker explosion and it ended up being a Wallflowers thread that brought me to the surface. Whoda thunk…
I’m wondering what’s going on with them as well. I’ve only recently gotten into their music (was apparently under some kind of rock in the mid-90s when Bringing Down the Horse hit) and now their official website is down and they seem to have dropped off the face of the earth.
As for Jakob Dylan being uncharismatic, I wonder if it could be a shyness issue? I’ve never seen him in concert but based on my fangirl research, he seems to have inherited a lot of his dad’s introversion.

I had a brief email friendship/correspondence with Jakob about a year before his first album came out as a result of a work-related situation and he was very nice and down to earth. Not that this means much about anything. At the time when I learned he was in a band and was going to release an album, I thought, yeah, OK, Julian Lennon redux. But I thought the debut album was great, and I was glad to see him and the band achieve a moderate amount of success. I would imagine it's been very difficult to grow up in his father's shadow with all the expectations that go along with that, and apparently his father was very cruel to him regarding his talents and prospects. He didn't share that level of detail with me but I'd read that later.

Hi. Also delurking to comment on The Wallflowers. I bought and really liked Bringing Down the Horse, by far their most commercially successful cd, but after about a year I realized I was really tired of it & stopped listening to it. Then two years ago I happened across an old review of their followup cd (4 years later) Breach. Allegedly, Jakob decided to mine his own life for material ~ for the first time ~ working out Daddy issues! I was intrigued and bought it. Wow, what a difference when an artist is really connected to their material. It is one of those albums that should be listened to as a whole ~ there is a definite arc to the story. I highly recommend it & don't miss the lovely hidden track at the end.
Their 2 later cd's are also very good ~ Jakob has never looked back creatively. The most recent cd, Rebel, Sweetheart ~ I think is his own "protest" music (is "W" the Drunken Marionette?). This may be heresy, but I think he's as much of an artist as his father ~ and with a better voice!
I don't know anything about his personal life, but I did read online somewhere recently that the band was splitting & he was going solo ~ considering he writes all the music, lyrics and is the sole singer ~ not to much of a loss ~ although they were a talented, tight band. I wonder if he finally feels comfortable/confident enough to stand on his own ~ I always think some artists (ie Sam Roberts) must prefer the comfort and protection of being in a band ~ even though they could really stand as solo artists.
Anyway, thanks for starting this thread ~ always nice to share the love.
PS: I downloaded an acoustic version of Sleepwalker (from Breach) on Limewire that is far superior to the album version.
