Apparently others, like Bill Maher, will start scabbing like Drew and put their shows back into production. Way to show solidarity. That’s how you break a strike. And yes, I know it is hard on the crew to not work, but you’re millionaires - throw a few bucks their way. Other productions have paid crews when they couldn’t work. Some have paid out of their own pockets.
Apparently on Drew’s show they are searching bags to make sure no one is bringing in pro-WGA stuff to wear in the audience.

I have always really liked Drew, but this is dirty. Considering that woman has spent her entire life in the industry and been blessed to have a great career - you'd think she'd have more loyalty. And more willingness to protect actors not as fortunate as she is. I'm really disappointed in her. I think that I'm going to actively avoid any of the shows that are going against the strike.

I appreciated that at least she said in her announcement "I own this decision". I took that to mean she was prepared for backlash, was willing to accept the consequences, and would not be issuing an apology one day later.
Well no. She issued an apology/non-apology video. No makeup, lots of sniffling and near-crying.
And then pretty immediately took the video down after there was backlash to the video.
Drew, you're being a jackass.

Now she's throwing people out of the show for wearing WGA pins. It will be interesting to see how many people are willing to come on the show or even work with her when it's over. She keeps saying that she's not using WGA writers on the show as if somehow that makes it okay. Does she not understand the concept of a scab?

She just announced that she would pause the premiere of her show until the strike is over.

Live with Kelly and The View are both back in production. What’s the difference? This is an honest question. I don’t follow this stuff that closely. "The View" and Kelly's show are produced by ABC's News division, whose writers are under a different contract that isn't affected by the strike. I can't speak for Mark and Kelly, but The View does have WGA writers, and have been in production without them since the WGA strike began. They start most shows stating they are doing it without writers. But there is some technicality which does come with being produced by the news division that allows them to be in production based on the contracts. I think that gray area explains why shows like Drew's thought it would be okay to come back. They're in a tough spot when they are competing against shows like The View, the many hours of Today or Kelly and Mark that are still in production. The longer they are in re-runs while other daytime shows are first run, the more of their audience is going to develop new habits. They have a lot of staff that is not a part of a union and won't benefit from a new contract who are out of work right now. Not all shows have the resources the late night hosts do to cover lost income for that staff. For syndicated daytime shows - not being on the air could mean there's no show to return to once the strike is over.

Drew wanted to be more like The View for her re-imagined platform, but can't just switch it while she's still under a full WGA contract. She would have to renegotiate the terms of her show after the strike to be in the same wheelhouse.
