Yeah, I don't really blame the Heroes/Emmy thing on Kristen Bell personally - it's not like she just waltzed in and plopped down in the front row, somebody had to allow her to do that.
OTOH, it was definitely annoying. So if it was a PR move by the Heroes people, it was a stupid one.

She's doing the voice overs for Gossip Girl, too. Raking in the cash lately, that VM.

NYU is expensive, yo; at least we can be sure she's paid off all her loans.

I don't dislike Kristen Bell, who seems like a cute & pleasant person, but all the hullaballo over Veronica Mars and claiming her to be Teh Best Actress EVAH!!! really makes me want to avoid her. I'm sort of fatigued of her without ever having watched anything she's been in. I realize VM had all the nerd fury behind it ... That is excellent. If I ever have a band, it will totally be called Nerd Fury. That's my feelings in a nut shell. I have no qualms about VM but the publicity is too much.

Well I can't see the Emmy people insisting she be seated in the front row as they never nominated her for VM so she's obvously not on their radar. Could have been she got that honor as Masi's date or could be the Heroes crew wanted to get the new face on their show out there. I don't think she got an undue amouny of publicity though - unless I was aware of her as a fan I certainly wouldn't have paid much attention to her beyond, "it's nice that they invited the new girl to the emmy's".
I have seen pics of her hanging out with Masi and Zachary Quinto in the past so it's clear she was already friendly with some of the Heroes actors and by extension maybe some of the other actors/crew. Maybe they genuinely like her hence inviting her to be on the show and just wanted to hang out with her?

Having her go as Masi's date and sit in the front row was the producer's way of generating interest and publicity. Kristen has a lot of diehard fans (people tuned into Gossip Girl just to hear her voice overs), and that the Emmys was meant to draw those fans to Heroes. Plus get new people interested in the cute blond girl. It looks like it worked; we're all talking. Kristen is contractually obligated to do all this publicity for her stint on Heroes; I don't understand how that can be construed as "famewhoring."

Exactly. I know I feel for the poor girl. I imagine they had to beg her to come along and do the red carpet and sit in the front row. I can imagine the conversations now where she tried to get out of it and wondered if another cast member who was stuck at home watching might have more reason to go, as she groaned with her friends over all the work the Heroes producers were forcing her to do. If there's one thing I think we know about KB it's that she hates going to events and getting a ton of attention.
And her massive fanbase sure paid off for Gossip Girl too. Over 3 million viewers total! I can't imagine they could've hit those numbers without her. Sky's the limit for Heroes.

I remember reading on TWoP people peeing their pants because she was doing the voiceovers on GG. I'm sorry, but the sound of someone's voice is not going to get me to watch a bunch of spoiled, rich kids screwing each other on a weekly basis. I can clip my toenails instead.

I read an article that basically stated Gossip Girl was a flop ratings wise.
I'm trying to remember what the ratings are like for Heroes but I'm sure they are 4 or 5 times those for VM so even if Kristen does have some die-hard fans (like me) then they certainly didn't help to keep her own show on the air.
I wouldn't accuse her of famwhoring precisely because outside her diehard VM fanbase she's really not that well know, indeed I imagine the Heroes actors are all more reognizable to the public than she is.
At any rate I just saw an ad for Heroes and I didn't realize it starts next week. Can't wait to see what her character is like on the show.

I liked VM and all (although my enjoyment of KB herself was iffy most of the time), but tuning into a show just to hear her? Umm, no.
