I remember that fansite-- Crowe's Perch?? I stayed almost exclusively in the OTT thread obsessing (incorrectly) over LOST. It was a good group of people-- the political thread was great too. Then I think we all lost interest in Crowe, and the site shut down. Yes! The Perch. It's still available to read, but no one has posted there for years now. The political threads were great. I still remember when things exploded over the US invasion of Iraq. There was another fairly popular board called Mostly Russ; same thing - no one has posted in years. That was where some hardcore fans gathered; the ones who traveled the world to see him. The best board of all doesn't exist anymore, it was hosted on the website Insidetheweb dot com, which also doesn't exist anymore. There were hundreds of posts every day, and it moved really, really fast. That was where I met several people who loved talking about movies. A woman named Jane hosted it, and if the rumours are to be believed, Crowe was at one point trying to decide whether that board or The Perch would be his "official" site. Fun times.

I didn't know about the other two sites. I did occasionally go to Murph's Place. Apparently Murph was an older woman, and Russell made a comment about her age, and it caused a meltdown.. then his team must have said something, and he called her. I promoted films then, and I kind of pioneered giving tickets and tchotchke to fan groups-- including Crowe's Perch and Murphs Place. At the time, the studios thought I was nuts, but it did create interest. As for the political thread... We were so naive during the Bush years....

Murph's site is indeed still around. It's true that Crowe at first was amused by her attention, but then he became a grownup about it and they communicated regularly. Another rumour says she and the hard-core Scottish fan travelled to France on his dime to visit the set of A Good Year. I remember she posted some photos from the set at one time. I don't remember tchotchke being given out at the Perch, must have been one of my no-internet days. I admit to being naive right after 9/11, though it was obvious we were being lied to, to justify the invasion. Especially by Colin Powell's UN speech. I went to a huge anti-war rally with thousands of people; I and the people I was with were convinced we would keep it from happening by virtue of our numbers alone.

BC's been involved with Sophie how long now? They're married and she's carrying their 2nd kid. You'd think the crazies would give it up by now. Or maybe 'saving' Martin Freeman from Amanda Abbington gave them fresh hope and they need BC to be free so Sherlock and John he and MF can play house together for realz. Considering that the Supernatural tinhats still think Jared and Jensen have been in love the whole time they've been on the show, despite each of them having been married (to women) since 2010 and having three kids each, I don't think there's anything that can change the unnervingly obsessed.

Have to say, after my experience with the Crowe fandom, I started exploring the Outlander fandom, looking for similar tendencies. Had to remove myself from a couple of Facebook groups I joined since the last time I posted here, b/c of extremely nasty shipping. Does the name Katy Berry ring a bell? Another entitled fan type, essentially blaming Cait and Sam for the vociferousness of some shippers, not being called out by the moderator (which is why I clicked out). "They started this nonsense". Waahhhoooo. And I gotta say, I see OL book readers everywhere who HATE that minute details of the books aren't included in the TV show. Each season would be 25 episodes long if some of the suggestions were adopted. I don't know why, but it actually saddens me, the number of women who start entire threads asking "Has anyone found their Jamie?"

At least they're not asking if anyone's found their Edward or Christian?

His obsessed fans are now on tumblr asking if the first kid is Weinsteins. They're convinced that Sophie was involved with Harvey; got pregnant, and Harvey FORCED Cumberbatch to take her on as a bride. We live in bizarro town.
