I'm super late to this, but I just started watching the Netflix documentary last night and, wow, what an evil, shitty family. Mind you, I'm not even through the entire boating disaster and I'm already chilled by these people. They really are an evil shitty family. But there is a small (tiny!) part of me that feels sorry for Paul. Because that young man didn't stand a chance in life. It was pretty clear he was the less favored second son, they basically guaranteed he'd be an alcoholic, and refused to do anything about his issues. It seems like his girlfriend and the housekeeper were the only ones who gave a damn about Paul. And even in the end, his selfish evil father was willing to kill Paul to save his own skin. BUT that same evil father was willing to die in a way that would set up the favored son Buster up with the insurance money. That is so messed up. I have a lot of respect for the kid whose girlfriend died and was also Paul's friend. He seems to be able to see Paul for the complex messed up person he was. He doesn't let him off the hook for the boating accident, but also missed the good parts of the friend he grew up with. That's a damn hard place to come to. I can't imagine getting to that place in light of everything he's been through.

I can't imagine getting to that place in light of everything he's been through. The irony is that Buster doesn't seem to give a shit about Alex. They played some of the prison calls and Buster is just barely even listening as Alex asks about the coverage of Gloria and Stephen Smith's deaths. Buster is utterly checked out and mostly annoyed that he got bad press for going to Vegas when his dad went to jail. Yes, I had the same feeling about the boyfriend/friend of Paul's, he's very clear that Paul did bad things, but is adamant that he didn't deserve to die, he just deserved punishment legally. I could not have been so kind in his shoes.

I am fascinated by this case and am so happy that he was finally caught. There was a youtube video of an interview with him from a few years ago in which he just talks about his job, but it's since been removed. The guy conducting the interview was super excited about interviewing Rex which was a little disconcerting and didn't age well. Of course, Rex came across so normal, like your typical suburban dad, except, you know, when his family out of town. Neighbors are also saying that he was creepy. His wife was at court for his hearing, but it sounds like a strand of her hair was also on one of the victims which might have led to his arrest. One minute you're living a normal life, and then suddenly your husband/dad is arrested and accused of being a serial killer. In more Murdaugh news, Buster will be on FoxNation to tell his side; "this series puts forward several missing elements that have not been brought to light.” Not sure it's a good idea for any more Murdaughs to give interviews because none of them are very likeable. Granted my opinion of Buster is from his jailhouse calls with his dad, but I suspect he's got the same narcissism and delusion as his dad. But who knows, maybe I'm wrong. Oh, and both Dick H, aka Poot, and Jim Griffin will also be interviewed.

DNA is so amazing! They found the forensic evidence from a pizza box that matched a hair on a burlap sack that one of the victims was wrapped in. Of COURSE, for every person who knew him are surprised because he seem like such a jovial figure, there were people who avoided him because he gave them the creeps. The “serial killer seems so normal“ is something that I expect. There’s a great there’s a great quote from TVTropes’s article on the movie My Friend Dahmer that perfectly describes how serial killers can act for so long – because they blend in.
I’m glad that the deaths of these humans, the majority of whom were sex workers, were never forgotten. Now, loved ones have closure. Now, they can R.I.P.

HBOMAX has a new documentary series on a Gay Serial Killer in NYC in the very early 90's, during the AIDS hysteria. Last Call is the name. American Horror Story's latest season also followed this story last autumn.
2 episodes so far, but very creepy and tragic.

CW: murder, murder for hire, serial rape, drug-facilitated rape, statutory rape, pedophilia, incest, sex trafficking, child sexual abuse, child pornography, sexual assault, suicide, bombing, cults, domestic violence, cannibalism, drug-induced psychosis, physical assault, torture, stabbing, arson, terrorism, sadism, white supremacy, substance abuse, ableism, adultery This may be a crossover list with the music thread, but I found a YouTube new channel, Savox that covers "musical artists" who have done terrible acts. Fortunately, some of them are in prison and/or justifiably obscure. Also, there's a LOT of terrible music involved, so please cleanse your ears afterwards.

Joran Van Der Sloot admitted to killing Natalee Holloway and how he did it. The statute of limitations in Aruba is 12 years, so he'll not be charged, which is why he confessed. However, he's in prison for killing another girl, fraud, and other charges until 2043. He extorted $25,000 from Natalee's mom in exchange for her remains and whereabouts, but never did. Her mom feels vindicated and that the case is now closed. Natalee would have been 36 years old if she was alive today.
