Here's his full quote:
I don't see any indication of racism....just a bunch of stupid rambling about cornfields and folk singers along with patting himself on the back for having blessed the world with the man who gave us "ah-a-ah-a-ah-a-ha, ah-ah-ah-ah." I like the Phillip Phillips song, but I'm pretty sure I wrote that myself when I was 4.

Yeah, Nicki's going to suck as a judge. Not because she's a rapper, but because she's awful. I wish the AI producers would do the humane thing and just cancel this mess. I guess it will be more fun to go out in a final blaze of incompetence, to quote George Costanza.

What am I missing here - where's the racist part? Don't apologize, Steven. I can't stand anything about this chick. Unfortunately, many people assume black people don't like, or know nothing about, any music that's not hip hop or R&B. I don't know if that's what Steven meant, but that would be what Nicki's annoyed about. In her full tweet, she specifically referenced the "cornfield" part mentioned in highondegrassi's quote... which I'm assuming she misinterpreted as "cottonfield"... which serves as another shining example of why celebs should steer clear of twitter. Nicki was wrong for calling Steven a racist based on those quotes, but I agree with her frustration and would have supported her tweets up to the racism allegations. We have no idea what she'll be like as a judge. Does he really think his panel's judging was anything special? The last five season winners of "Idol" have been so similar that fans have named the phenomenon: "White Guy With Guitar". This is markedly different from the first six seasons of the show. Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Jordin Sparks, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Hicks look like a Bennetton ad in comparison. He seems to be trying to say that his panel was better at putting the kids at ease during their auditions and performances, but I can't help but infer that he's also making a value judgement on the type of winner his seasons produced and the type of winner he thinks the new panel will produce.

Any argument she had with Tyler went out the window as soon as she called him a racist. I think his reaction had more to do with the feuding reports between her and Mariah, he didn't really say it right, but they are there for the new talent, and it isn't about them.
She seems to be a very reactionary person, she has fights with everyone. The last one before the AI fight was with the radio station DJ's on Hot 97 in New York. When one critizied her Starships song, because it wasn't in the same vein with what she was orginally putting out. She threw a fit, went on a twitter rampage and eventually dropped out of the Summer Jam concert she was booked for. This type of behavior reeks of insecurity, not everyone is going to like what you do, but if you fall to pieces and throw trantrums at every little thing, you won't have a lasting career. Not that I endorse her in any way, I don't like her music

I think it's hiliarous that she's a huge Enya fan.

The cornfield quote is a reference to a famous Twilight Zone episode that starred a young Bill Mumy. He played a tyrannical child with omnipotent powers. When he wanted to get rid of people he'd "send them to the cornfield." It isn't (to my mind) a racist comment.

I think it's hiliarous that she's a huge Enya fan. She is? LOLLLL. Enya is what my parents used to get drunk to in the '90s whenever they were vacationing somewhere warm.

*small voice* I like Enya's first album *small voice*
Which is all I hear about her regarding AI which tells me that she doesn't have anything to offer of substance as a judge. She's just there to gin up cheap ratings by being a drama queen.
Which is sad because she does experimental music and I had hoped she'd add a unique point of view by being able to relate to those who are musical outliers and could push the more mainstream contestants into stretching their boundaries. I guess not. AI fail.

Oh, there's nothing wrong with Enya. I just associate it with my parents partying it up in warm weather (Dire Straits and Heart also belong in this category) and because of that it makes me laugh/smile when I hear other people are fans.

I see nothing racist in his statement. Cornfields have become symbolic of creepy, 'where the bodies are buried' places, so I get where he was going with his comment. I've lost respect for Minaj since seeing "Her Truth"...she's a nightmare. She needs to take a seat.
