You know he's dropping a single probably in a month or so.

Geri left the Spice Girls four years after they formed (I had to look it up) so Zayn is on target, I guess. I remember how devastated I was when Geri quit mid tour - I thought the Spice Girls would last forever! Ah, youth. Hopefully the 1D fans realize that a reunion album and tour will take place in about 10 years time. But I didn't have that foresight at their age, so I understand the freak out. Good think social media wasn't around when I was a kid. My main concern was who would sing Geri's parts - "so tell me what you want, what you really want" had to be said in a certain way, you know.

My co-worker just reported that her 13 y/o is crying and wants to rip up all of her posters. I'm so glad I never had to go through this with Duran Duran.

Oh, Lawd. But seriously, you video yourself in a bathroom crying? Sometimes this generation needs to step away from the smartphone. lol

I like the That's What Makes You Beautiful song, however I'm baffled by their popularity and the meltdowns that have resulted by Zayn leaving. I've been trying to follow the drama on ONTD for the past week, and I'm helplessly lost. I doubt he's really leaving because he was caught cheating on his fiance. There had to be more internal drama going on. He'll probably go solo, and the rest of the band will eventually split after their contractual obligations have been fulfilled. I haven't been able to grasp the boyband phenomenon since the heyday of NSync and BSB. Is 1D more of less popular than either of those two groups? Where would the Jonas Brothers fit in the equation? And in very sad/bleak news, I was afraid some of those girls would pan down and show that they were cutting themselves in some of those crying videos. Children, step away from the phones and social media. And some mouth breathing, racist nitwit, edited Zayn's wiki page to state that he was leaving to join ISIS. Ugh. Ugh, all day.

But Duran Duran were MEN, not boys... Yeah...I was a huge Duran Duran fan and I got defensive when my family compared my love for them to my niece's obsession with One Direction. I was actually surprised how pissed off and defensive I got (me: "They were real musicians and not a prefab boy band!!!1!!1!"), which my family probably felt proved their point.

I haven't been able to grasp the boyband phenomenon since the heyday of NSync and BSB. Is 1D more of less popular than either of those two groups? Where would the Jonas Brothers fit in the equation? The Jonas Brothers were hugely puffed up by the Disney hype machine, not a total mirage, but 1D and even Bieber, before he went off the rails, were much more popular, with more Top 40 success (but not as much as BSB). One Direction has the global following like BSB did (while NSync were more of a US/Canada phenomenon), and can fill stadiums, for now. This might be the beginning of the end, though the Spice Girls didn't immediately crumble after Geri left.
