And the fucking gaslighting by the producer: "“We don’t really understand why he left", It's not gaslighting. They thought he was on board with the plan to take his headphones off during the clips, but then he just walked out in the middle of the interview without saying why. None of the stories I have read even confirmed that the clip was the problem - NPR has just had to assume that it was because he didn't give them any other reason. If they had a discussion prior to the interview, agreed to a plan, and then NPR went ahead and violated the plan, he would have reason to be upset. But it seems to be him who violated the plan, not the other way around.

The fact that the producers had cues lined up to let him know when the clip would start, accommodating him to not hear said clip, tells me there was discussion before hand that Adam was at least present for. At that point he could have said: nope, gotta go (before said interview started). He didn't. He's a diva. (I say this because it would be said about virtually any other celeb who behaved this way- but because he is seen as a sensitive delicate artisty soul he somehow gets a lot more lee-way)
*** look- here's the thing for me- I have extreme introversion and social anxieties. I know everyone's struggle is different- but this just gives me a particular perspective, and I do get it/have empathy. I would also be mortified, to the point of nausea, sweating, crying to have to sit through clips of myself, to have to answer deeply personal questions. I also would not choose- as a profession- a job that REQUIRES this. I don't mean Adam should not be allowed to act. But- come on- you want to star in big block busters (and get the cheques for them) there ARE things that come with that job. We aren't talking a person with a disability struggling to find work in this case. We are talking about a guy who chose this particular film, and is actively working in blockbuster films.
The interviewers ALSO have a job. I don't fault Terry Gross one bit. Get over yourself Mr. Driver. If these things give you legit debilitating phobia don't do them. No one forced him to take part to begin with. No one forced him to take on these roles that included the expectation of doing interviews.
*** Now- I also have to wonder if this is a thing he is discovering about himself. Maybe he has tried, and maybe he thought it would get better. I have noticed he has done virtually no interviews for Star Wars, and done no talk shows (which often show clips). So maybe he is learning. And that's ok. Still certainly does not make me fault the journalist doing her job.

The Midwestern part of me feels like this is silly.
However--another part of me thinks we need to take someone's preferences into consideration. It sounds like it does affect his creative process (I know that's a very loaded term when we're talking about millionaire celebrities). But psyches can be fragile. I have anxiety disorder and get panic attacks. You can get a fear or a phobia about anything that's traumatic. I don't think he needs to be diagnosed to be sensitive about it. It makes him uncomfortable. He's said that. We don't know on a scale of 1-10 how uncomfortable it makes him whether its annoyance or breaking out in a cold sweat. It sounds more like the latter.
I think it all depends on how Fresh Air set it up. Did they tell him or ask him? What was his reaction? How was the interview going? We now know he became a father in the last two years but has worked hard to keep that from the press. Obviously he has an intense private streak.
I think we should respect an artist's process. Yes, of course media is part of the job when you're in Star Wars. But he's done press before. He did SNL for the first two movies. This is a big, ensemble movie and we don't know what's going on. I work as a writer and hey, any little thing that helps (or doesn't hinder) the creative process should be nurtured. It's going to seem frivolous to others. Oh well. I also worked as a teacher and developed a lot of fear around talking in public and had to be very prepared to do it (and I don't anymore).
Standing up and performing in front of people is a big deal. Stage fright is a serious, debilitating thing. Also, gotta be honest. I find him ridiculously hot as Kylo Ren and love the SNL Undercover Boss sketch. He's shredded.

There is just something magnetic about him. This is probably a controversial opinion but he was the best thing about The Rise of Skywalker.

I'm thoroughly enjoying the intensity of the discussion surrounding this guy.
I know who he is, but haven't watched a damn thing he's in. This conversation has been more entertaining than he probably is. 😂

He's also pretty much skipped all of the Star Wars media stuff. I haven't seen him in ANYTHING (save for 1 red carpet walk- with no interviews). He is a MAJOR character in this film, yet he is no where to be seen? I mean, ehh- I don't particularly care (and if I ever had to do stuff like this I would opt out as much as possible- yet... I do NOT do stuff like this, it's not part of my job). I just kinda feel like: You sign up for Star Wars... freakin Star Wars... if red carpets/media/interviews aren't your thing then don't sign up to be a major character in one of the hugest movie franchises of all time. I hear the world's tiniest violin crying for him at this very moment. :/ Well after seeing The Rise of Skywalker I think I might know why. I'll put this under a spoiler tag. {Spoiler}After seeing TROS, it's more clear to me than ever that Disney wanted the Skywalker name not the Skywalker family, so it makes sense during the promotion of this film that they want to promote their characters and not any tied to the Skywalker legacy like Adam's was.

This conversation has been more entertaining than he probably is. 😂 I agree! I’ve seen Black Klansman and liked him in that, as well as his SNL episode, but I think that’s it. My takeaway is that he had a bad day at the office, so to speak, and I’m relieved this isn’t about groping, racism, abuse of power, etc. I also think this conversation might be different if he were situated differently in terms of gender or race, or perhaps if it weren’t NPR. Alas...

I think I would still be understanding if it was John Boyega or Daisy Ridley. But The Last Jedi exposed a toxic aspect to the Star Wars fandom and you do have to wonder if this type of behavior would damage their careers more than Driver's.
