I've realized that I've become a fan of his over this awards season. And not even really because of "Marriage Story", though it is a great performance. It just sorta became clear that I've pretty much found him awesome in everything I've seen him in, including SNL. Great actor and really charismatic. Joanne Tucker had a really pretty dress on at the Oscars: Adam Driver and Joanne TuckerActually thought that he came across as rather relaxed and laid back during the awards season, perhaps Phoenix being the clear front runner took the pressure out of it? Anyway, remember that the first time I took really notice of him was the "Girls" first season finale. He was just the strange, creepy boyfriend and in that episode he totally burned down the building with his performance and at least for me it came totally out of nowhere. Also love "Paterson", such a beautiful, almost wordless performance. Could have gotten an Oscar nom for that one as well, but I guess too quiet. I'm sure he would love to win someday, but I'm glad that he didn't win this year because of the grief that he would have gotten. Plus I can't imagine him giving an acceptance speech over and over again like most acting winners have to do now. No wonder he looks relieved that he doesn't win probably because he really is relieved when he doesn't. Also while I don't know that he's ever spoke up about actors that he admires, it seems like Phoenix is on that list for many actors, and judging from social media actors really loved his Joker, so I could also see Driver just being a big fan and feeling like Phoenix deserved it more especially if you take in other factors like how long Phoenix has been around without ever having won. Agree about Paterson too. One of my favorite performances from him. I guess the film was too small for him to get any awards traction, but he did prevent Casey Affleck from winning the big 3 trifecta that year when the Los Angeles Film Critic Association went with Driver over him so that was nice lol. I mean sure Affleck did give a great performance, but since there's other factors involved, I don't mind that he lost at all. I'm going to be torn next year though if The Last Duel is any good, and Driver potentially gets award traction for that. It seems like if not handled very sensitively the subject matter can go really bad quickly, and I don't trust Ridley Scott or Matt Damon and Ben Affleck being involved. (Although I'm not sure that Affleck has much involvement now since it seems like Driver replaced him, and now he has a much more supporting role.) I do trust Nicole Holofcener though, but I'm not sure how much input she'll really have. For those that are curious about it, Wikipedia entry about the book that it's based on.

I’m disappointed he didn’t win, because I thought he deserved it, but he will win someday (hopefully it doesn’t take 20 years) and it seems like winning can sometimes tank an actor’s career. Right now he still has a really bright future and more to work towards. He is such a great actor and I’m excited for his upcoming projects, even the Last Duel. It has Nicole Holofcener writing so maybe it won’t be problematic, although I can definitely see the potential for it. I don’t know. I feel like at this point I would pay to watch a 3 hour movie where Adam Driver sits in a chair and reads names out of a phone book so I’m probably not the best judge.

Oh my. Damon and Affleck both look silly (why blond hair on Affleck? Why? Oh, the humanity). But not Driver.
I maintain that he's a hottie. I also wish I had his level of confidence.

Adam definitely fared better than Matt and Ben in this movie looks-wise. Seriously, what in the world did the other two do the hair and makeup person to make them take revenge like that? Who thought Affleck needed to be blonde? I really want Adam to get his Oscar sooner rather than later so I will keep a good thought on this.

Although I think he'll win an Oscar someday like Saoirse Ronan, Amy Adams, and Bradley Cooper probably will, there's no guarantee, so I'd rather that it was sooner than later. On the positive side, Ridley Scott can be a talented director, Nicole Holofcener is co-writing it, and Driver has a villainous role, and I think will go Supporting while Damon goes Leading which might give him a better chance. He'll also have Annette which hopefully is great too. On the negative side, besides the way Affleck and Damon look, I can't really imagine Affleck doing a French accent or I guess an English accent since that's what American actors tend to use for most period films. Scott can also be very hit or miss, actually more miss, and the subject matter seems like a minefield.

Maybe Affleck has a non speaking role. 😬 Adam Driver is definitely at the point right now where he can be really choosy with his roles so maybe the script for this is really good (Nicole Holofcener can deliver). Either that or Ridley Scott was just too big of a draw. Who knows how many more movies he has left to make. I am also excited for Annette!

Affleck used a British accent in Shakespeare in Love.
