I've never seen the show, but a lead actor - even one with a producer credit - is unlikely to have the authority to 'off' a character. The network/studio and execs would have to agree, and they only care about ratings and character popularity.

But she never had scenes with the lead actor for seasons 4 through 6 (her last). Even their final scene was done with a split screen so they didn't tape it together. Archie has said she didn't have any problems. The lead actor said that Archie was off shooting something else at the time they did the last scene, but Archie said it was a lie. It was strange because they played best friends on the show.

It would be interesting to know whether or not AP was offered a respectable new contract, a joke of a new contract or no new contract at all.

I know - I was referring to the comments saying, if things were so bad, why didn't JM get rid of her? Answer being, because she doesn't have that kind of power.

I apologize upfront for being vague, but I don't want to use anything identifiable given the people involved. A friend of mine was in a social situation with someone peripherally involved with the show (this was long before the season finale and the confirmation of the problems). Friend commented about the rumors of trouble between Archie & Juliana, which I had told friend about. The insider said that (s)he (the insider) is actually quite friendly with Archie and they socialize regularly, and the insider said the rumors were true and it was largely on Archie. Apparently, she's kind of a pain in the ass to work with. So said someone who considers Archie a friend.

I don't see how that matters. I'm sure plenty of actors are pains in the ass. We've all worked with pains in the ass. But you still show up and do your job and don't try to get special treatment just because you aren't buddy-buddy with your colleagues.
Besides, the issue isn't that they didn't renew Archie's contract. It's that they moved heaven and earth, to the point where the audience noticed, to twist the scripts and change the plots on a dime so the actors never shared screen time. If Christine Baranski and Josh Charles and Matt Czuchry and every other cast member could suck it up and act with someone who's (allegedly) a pain in the ass, then so could Julianna Margulies. The actors don't get to change storylines just because they don't want to have sleepovers with a particular colleague.

I mean, unless she was threatening JM (in which case she should have been fired), there's no reason why they couldn't share a scene. We all have to work with people who are difficult, and we suck it up and do it. That's why ultimately I blame the producers for not handling this correctly. If AP was the problem, then they should have told her to shape up or ship out. And then they should have told JM to suck it up and do her job. Instead they let some behind the scenes squabble dictate what happened in front of the cameras, and their show suffered for it.

I have no dog in this race but the producers handled this poorly. There was nothing unique about JM and AP's situation. Anybody who has ever watched any of E!'s True Hollywood stories knows actors feuding is pretty common (I swear apparently The Married With Children cast are the ones that got along with little drama). What is unique is the producers just let it spin out of control and did nothing in damage control. Usually producers will pull the actors aside and tell them, "Listen you two don't have to like each other. You don't even have to speak to each other. But you will do your job and your job requires you to play BFFs. Grow up." But it doesn't appear the Kings ever even attempted to do that. I did a little googling and it appears this is the first time the Kings ever acted as show runners. They've only had one other show prior to this and it was cancelled fairly quickly. So it's possible a lack of experience is one reason why this feud has been handled so poorly. Shonda Rimes should give them lessons in how to handle out of control egos on set. Say what you want about her writing but she would have handled this much better. That woman has no patience for BS.

God, who in Hollywood doesn't talk smack about their "friends"?
