Add to that his whitemansplaining to the African American writer on Project Greenlight. Fuck him, his bestie, and the little shit they coddle Casey.

Damon whines to mediaI am so sick of "I am the father of daughters and- " It shouldn't require your wife having given birth (and I note that wives rarely show up on these kind of quotes, so I guess she only counts when she provides the requisite daughter) for you to count women and their rights as important enough for you to take a stand. And even then, you're only doing it because you're worried about negative press. Damon is a toad.

Just curious- Why is it only Matt getting shamed (as he should be) but not a peep about Russell Crowe, who was the second source. He hasn’t released a statement AFAIK.

I think that Matt's closeness to dog Ben and help in shading Casey Affleck from the press during his own allegations has really made people angry.
I do think there's hope for Matt. Hope for him to learn from this and be a better person.
(Ben and Casey both suck, though... so they can go suck it.)

I agree, it is pretty imbalanced between him and Russell Crowe. But I think Crowe is a known asshole and he benefits from lowered expectations. Plus, he's keeping his mouth shut.
As for Matt Damon, this just seems to cap off a series of fuckups lately. There was the Project Greenlight moment, the Casey Affleck crap, and he also came in for a drubbing with the Great Wall movie. I think if this Weinstein thing were the ONLY problem he had lately, then he could plausibly get away with making a "I didn't understand the full magnitude of what I did, I'm horrified and I'm going to do some soul-searching" type of statement.

Yes, at least for me, that's what it is. Matt Damon is branded as a "good guy" and the HW thing was the latest in a series of recent incidents that seem to negate that. Also Matt's tendency to lecture and need to come off like a Hollywood elder statesman makes me hold him to a higher standard.
Russell Crowe beat a hotel employee with a phone. Also, commenting on HW would only invite scrutiny into his own behaviour and horrible treatment of Danielle Spencer.

Hope for him to learn from this and be a better person. I agree. The tiresome "women = daughters" aside, I don't think he knew he was protecting Weinstein from sexual assault/harassment claims (all of the stories have a pattern, and none of them are in front of other actors). But he probably could have guessed that he was enabling Harvey's well-documented general aggression and use of the media to further abuse people. That said, 20 years ago Matt Damon didn't have the prestige he does now and probably didn't want that aggression turned on him. Between this, and both Afflecks, I bet Damon has been around/witness to a lot more inappropriate sexual behavior that he either ignored or was oblivious to. I hope that changes.

I think this is it too ^
Matt has been vocal (and preachy- see also Meryl Streep) about causes and equality, etc. All the while he actively fought to cover up a sexual abuser very recently (Casey Affleck), and now this comes out too... coupled with his best bud (Ben Affleck) going down in a ball of flames with more and more evidence of his sexual predator behaviour. Me thinks he is not as enlightened as he believes himself to be.
I think also a lot of anger comes from: These are the people who are the problem, in my mind even more than the predators themselves. This is because: a predator will do these awful things- but this is only able to continue when people who seem to be "good"/ decent, etc willfully help to cover up and dismiss the behaviour. If you have one guy going around grabbing asses and breasts and asking for "massages" that is horrible and scary. But then, when it happens and you go to the non-predators and say: look what happened, and their response is : what?? Nothing happened... nothing to see here. And you have 5-10-100 people doing that- that is what makes the victims afraid to speak. The predators really only have this much power because of people like Damon. (that is my humble opinion). And that is why he makes me so angry.

Crowe is on a movie set right now (Boy Erased) with his long-time friend Nicole Kidman, who has in past years been very vocal about violence against women. Disappointingly, she released a brief, generic statement about all this, despite being in about a dozen Miramax pictures herself.
