I much prefer Rosie over Ellen. Rosie may get annoying, but at least she has a personality. And when she's telling stories she can be very entertaining. Ellen on the other hand never has an opinion on anything. And even though she's come out, you sure as hell couldn't tell from watching her show. It's weird because it almost feels like she's still trying to hide it. Yeah, you can really tell that Ellen never wants to be a part of any kind of controversy whereas Rosie seems to be all for it. Somewhere inbetween the two of them lies the perfect talk show host.

Of the two, Rosie vs. Ellen, I prefer Ellen. I just don't think Ellen wants her show to be about "the lesbian with the talk show!" If she did that, it would be as bad as when Kathie Lee went on and on about her kids. I like watching an entertainer for their talent, not their personal life.
Anyway, I do think Rosie has a good heart. But she grates. Just a personal preference in personality I guess.

I HATE Rosie. Seriously, you guys, hate! Everything about her is so obnoxious and immature. The instances you guys had mentioned previously- not letting Kelly breast feed, attacking Tom Selleck, saying that lies give people cancer- show just how nasty a person she is. Not the funny nasty, either, just nasty. I know she had a rough childhood and everything but her behaviour is just too much.

I prefer Ellen simply because I've never heard of her telling someone that she got cancer because she's a liar, she's never attacked a guest for his political beliefs in a forum that was neither the time nor the place, she's never made her partner stop breastfeeding because she felt left out, and I don't know a darn thing about Ellen's yellow.
Rosie can be funny, I've liked her in a lot of her movie roles, I admire the things she does like organize those cruises for families with two moms or two dads, and I used to really like her talk show (before it went down hill), but I strongly suspect that Rosie often sucks as a person. I understand she may have problems or had a bad childhood, but those are merely reasons for her behavior, not excuses, and I don't have to like her because of them.

I just remembered something... I read an Ebert review of one of her movies. I can't remember what the movie was, but it was before her talk show and I'm not sure too many people knew who she was at that point. Anyhow, during the review Ebert said that Rosie O'Donnell "looks mean."
And, dear god, I forgot about that "liars get cancer" thing.

Oh I'm hoping that this is true! I'm not a fan of Rosie's, but the fireworks that will happen between her and Star will be spectacular. What about between Rosie and Bitsy? That will be funny to watch. ...or how about Rosie and, you know, the entire universe?

I remember liking Rosie when she was in movies in the early 90s: Sleepless in Seattle and Another Stakeout. I didn't see those movies for her but I thought she was funny in them. I'm not too bothered by her now because she's not on my radar screen much. Probably because if she was, she'd bug me.

<duh>So what happened when Tom Selleck was on her show?</duh> I never saw the show, but apparently he came on to promote his latest movie. Instead he got ambushed by her very aggressively confronting him about his stance on gun control. She really shot herself in the foot (Hee! That was unintentional!) because people like Tom Selleck and didn't like seeing him getting bullied. It was the wrong time and place, very inappropriate.

Selleck came on her show to promote whatever movie he had coming out. He had also recently shot an ad and/or did something else in support of the National Rifle Association. But instead of allowing him to talk about the project he was promoting, Rosie basically tore him a new one for supporting the NRA, and essentially ambushed him with it. At one point, Selleck even said, "Look, I'm just here to promote my movie." It was extremely uncomfortable and Rosie was totally out of line.
