I mean out of all the things to criticize, this guy goes with "not as interesting off drugs"? I hate to say it but RDJ made some duds during the drug years too (cough, U.S. Marshals, cough). So the nostalgia for those years is not only sort of cruel, but wrong. Sobriety aside it's just not that common for an actor to have a stinker-free resume.

The drugs didn't make RDJ interesting during the early 90's. His choice in roles and his talent did! But yeah, as Mutagen pointed out, he even made some duds then. Longing for RDJ's drug days doesn't make RDJ look boring. It just makes the writer look like a dick.

The whole idea is just such a tired cliche, anyway. James Toback said the same thing about RDJ a couple of years ago or so.

This recent behavior sounds really dickish but I've read a bunch of things about him giving money without fanfare to recovery-related causes that I choose to not dwell on the bad stuff. Same here. What I understand is that he personally finances the cost of rehab in the facility he went to for addicts who can't afford it. That's pretty impressive, and not your typical for-tax-purposes charitable behavior.

He's probably stupid-rich with all his Marvel money at this point, so why not try to be a real-life Tony Stark? There are worse ways to spend your money. Though...I'm picturing a bunch of Wall-E's cleaning up our garbage.

Wow good for him. My favorite celebs have always been the ones that use their fame/money for good causes.
