Everything I've ever read on him contains those little self-deprecating "zingers." That's his interview schtick. Ha ha, Chris. You're such a geek. And you scored the prom queen and you'll never understand why. And you worry that your band isn't all that good. Whaaaatever.
I think he uses humour to try to cover up his neuroticism and his massive ego. I think he's a knob.

I read a quote from him recently, I think in EW's summer music issue, where he said that they'd named one of the songs on the new album "42" or some number because "you can't be the greatest rock band in the world if you don't have a number song title", citing similar number titles by U2 and the like. Made me roll my eyes something awful. Here's a clue, Chris: maybe those bands upon whom that title has been conferred cared more about making really, really good music than being deemed the best rock band in the world. It's the difference between being an artist and being a celebrity. Darn it, and I like Coldplay.

Was surprised by the Brad Pitt comment. I guess she must talk about him at home. I have a feeling that Brad is the elephant in the room of their marriage.

Heh! See comments like that make me want to like him. I guess I find it hard to take comments like that all that seriously.

I am so going to try "I'm not really enjoying this" the next time I want to get out of something at work. Asshat.

I stand by my previous post: wanker (hee)! According to the linked article, it wasn't as if the journalist was asking him intrusive or offensive questions. I love "The Scientist" and "Fix You" ("Fix You" has such beautiful intent), but Martin seems a complete dill. I will admit that in the "Rolling Stone" interview I was impressed that he was so open about the criticism of the last album, but even then he just seemed too earnest. And, did anyone check out that photo of the band in their Delecroix-inspired costumes accompanying the article about him walking our of the BBC interview? They look ridiculous, imo. At least the photo gave me a good giggle. I wonder if Gwyneth, the arbiter of style, is embarassed.

Wow, he really is a wanker and she's a pompous snot. No wonder they have beem married for so long. I've said it before and I will say it again: Fug and Smug sooo deserve each other . I've never bought the faux humility thing he's got going on in (some) interviews. He's just an arrogant asshat
