I'd also like to add to the conversation that "Elvis and Me" is a terrible, awesome TV movie.

What is the story behind the Pygmalion syndrome with Priscilla thing? Sorry I haven't really read up on Elvis' life. Just curious. A synopsis: Elvis was drafted and went into the army and served in Germany. While there he met a 14 year old Priscilla Beaulieu (sp?) whose father was a sargeant in the army. It was love or so Priscilla would have you believe (and Elvis). Mr. Presley talked Miss Beaulieu's family into allowing him to take her 14 year old self (isn't there a federal law about taking minors across state lines or international lines for immoral acts? (Hatch Act?)) back with him to Memphis when Mr. Presley was discharged. She lived with him in Graceland and he sent her to a Catholic girls school and made out with her on his bed (not the act, everything but) while she grew up in his house. He was also screwing around with Ann-Margaret and Hollywood starlets and just about any girl---he was good looking and rich---he had his pick. Once Miss Beaulieu hit eighteen, Mr. Presley decided to honor his promise to her family and married her in Las Vegas. Most people were pretty surprised that she still existed. She was just another one of his girls. Once she got pregnant he wouldn't screw her so she sort of became the Re-Virgin Mother. She decided that she wanted some sex in her life so she started screwing hers and Elvis' karate teacher and the Presleys divorced. She took up Scientology and plastic surgery---most of her face no longer moves. But she proved to be a better business person than Colonel Parker could ever pretend to be. She's done very well with Mr. Presley's estate. That man has raked in the money since his death.

Oh, mah bad! Thanks. I did a search for "subject," but all it showed me was his name in messages. How embarassing. (Honestly, I just wanted to all the bitching.)

I'm embarrassed to say I didn't know any of this. Pretty gross all around, though.

Sheesh! I had no idea about Elvis and Priscilla. All I knew that she was 'pretty young' when they got involved. That doesn't even begin to cover it!

Why did he pick Priscilla to come live with him? If he had other girls around, why was he so interested in her, in particular, to have her stay in his home?
Jerry Lee Lewis must be so mad.

Priscilla was 14 when they met, moved to Memphis at 17, and married Elvis at 21.

Good question, ds1. I remember reading Priscilla's "Elvis and Me" book about ten years ago and I thought it was a pretty good read. Just hearing about a lot of the things that went down between them (and Elvis himself) was some wack shit. Good trainwreck book.

Priscilla was gorgeous. And sweet. And compliant. And totally adoring of the biggest rock star in the world at that time. He thought of her as a possession, like a beautiful china doll always at Graceland waiting for him when he came home. I think with Jerry Lee Lewis people were more disgusted with the fact that Myra Gale was his cousin than with him marrying a 13 year old.
