It's just that if he didn't want to stay faithful to her I don't get why he bothered with having her live with him in his house. What exactly was the purpose of that? (Granted, a lot of men cheat anyway....but I don't get why he'd go out of his way to live with a 14 year old. THAT perplexes me.) Then again, if he was 24, I'm not entirely sure why he was interested in a 14 year old in the first place. That brings up a whole other level of questioning.
I forgot about the cousin angle with Jerry Lee Lewis.

Hunh. I would have assumed cousin-marriage was more acceptable back then than it is now. Maybe the whole first cousin once removed thing was too close for comfort?
I've got to admit that out of all the Old Hollywood actors and musicians young Elvis is the only one I find smoking hot. The full lips, bedroom eyes, accent, etc. I would have banged that like screen door in a hurricane. I guess I wouldn't kick young Brando out of bed either.
The music- I guess it's o.k. if I'm really in the mood or I'm going to have a sock-hop, but it doesn't have that timeless appeal. Anyway, I'd rather listen to Chuck Berry for early rock and roll.

I keep seeing that Priscilla Presley moved in with Elvis when she was 14 years old. She did not. She was 14 years old when they met in 1959. However, Priscilla did not move in with Elvis until she was 17 years old in 1962. During the two year span where Priscilla was still in Germany and Elvis was not, they maintained a phone relationship. So it is possible that Elvis was quite free to cat around as he wasn't in an exclusive relationship with Priscilla Presley. Obviously, I have no way of knowing but the facts could be interpreted more than one way.

My dad flipped when I wanted to go to the movies with a kid two grades above me - I can just see he reaction if I had a 20 something wanting to be my "pen-pal" when I was 14.

Makes me wonder how much money Elvis paid to her parents in order to sell access to their 14 year old daughter to a 24 year old rich and famous guy. This reeks of R Kelly type shit. I wouldn't surprised if it turned out he saw her is some sort of china doll ornament furnishing his house like an expensive vase. Especially if he essentially purchased her.

A lot of girls of that generation, my parents' generation, were married at 18, so I can see where having a relationship with a 14 year old, although I personally find it creepy and inappropriate, was not considered as big a deal back then as it would be today.
There's a fundamental difference between people like Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley, who presumably were still attracted to their wives once they grew up (divorces notwithstanding), and a true pedophile who loses interest in their prey once they reach adolescence/adulthood.

Her parents initially said no to them living together. According to her book, they disapproved of the relationship from the beginning. Priscilla, being a typical teenager, had a hissyfit and refused to speak to her parents until they gave in. Elvis, and his father, eventually convinced them that Priscilla would be well taken care of and no shenanigans would be going on. I think her parents had a lot of guilt b/c right before she met Elvis, she found out that her mom had been married before, and the man she thought was her father was really her stepfather. I don't remember her mentioning it, but there may have been $$ exchanged.

Kind of apropos of nothing, but I remember Barry White said on his "Behind the Music" that he was in juvie and one night as he was trying to sleep, Elvis' "It's Now or Never" came on a radio. BW credited that song as his turnaround moment, and he pledged to go straight after that. So, in a way, I guess we can thank Elvis for Barry White. Sort of.
