My older brother hates Elvis simply because he had the audacity to die on my brother's 16th birthday. Totally ruined his party, because our dad was a HUGE Elvis fan. To this day, if you want to piss my brother off, walk up to him and say, "I hear Elvis died on your birthday." Then stand back and watch the fun. On the plus side, his is the only birthday in our family I don't have trouble remembering.

Elvis was a huge part of my growing up period, just like MJ was to a lot of younger people. Don't Be Cruel and Hound Dog were two of my first rock favorites. I remember going to see his first movie, Love Me Tender and a whole theater of females sobbing at the end.
As for anything bizarre on his part, I think it was simply the result of a simple country boy suddenly becoming a household word and doing so very quickly. It hit him hard and it probably was extremelt hard to handle. He also suffered greatly at the loss of his mother at a relatively early age (her age, not his). I have read that he absolutely adored Lisa Marie and I give him credit for providing for her properly. Okay, she's flaky today, but so is her mother, the Botox queen.

I'm just wondering. What is the difference between Elvis and R Kelly? R Kelly married Aaliyah when she was 15 and he still claimed to love her up to when she died aged 20-something (and was said to somewhat idealize her..the way Elvis was described as treating Priscilla). He met his current wife (who is divorcing him I heard) when she was 14. Are people saying it's okay to be a pedo just as long as you don't dump or still love the girl after puberty? Then in that case what was happening before they were of consenting age doesn't come under molestation/statutory rape anymore?

Yeah, to be honest I've never really got the distinction either. If it's gross and jailworthy in one case, I don't really get why it's ok in another. It all seems pretty gross to me.

I was raised on Elvis and I'm still a huge fan. The thing with Priscilla has always been creepy to me though. I know she said they didn't have sex until they were married and she was nearly 22 by that point, but whatever, it's still creepy.

They didn't have intercourse until they were married (according to her) but there was other sexual contact. A lot of it.

I've always had a cheesy image of Elvis in my head. I don't know if it's because of seeing Uncle Jesse on Full House always do that annoying lip curl or all of those Vegas impersonators or once seeing an Elvis fan's house full of Elvis memorabilia ALL OVER THE HOUSE, but I just think of cheese when I see Elvis.
Edited to ask:
Did Elvis have relationships with any other young girls (under 18) or was Priscilla the only one?

NOT SAYING THIS MAKES IT OKAY, but I wonder if Priscilla Presley being a grown up and apparently not having a problem with it is a factor in terms of public opinion? (Actually I haven't read her book, so I don't know how okay with it she is/was.) Like if she's not outraged, who am I to be outraged on her behalf? Although that still leaves out the fact that it does not speak well of Elvis, regardless of whether Priscilla was ultimately OK with it or not. Although having said that, she must be keenly aware of how she'd be dragged through the mud if she dared to accuse The King of being a molester. So who knows.

I think Priscilla is protecting the image of Elvis. If I's remembering the story correctly she is pretty much the mastermind behind Graceland (as far as turning it into a tourist destination) so she is a smart woman.
I read her book years ago and I dont believe that he didnt touch her. I believe he say what happened to Jerry Lee Lewis and knew better than to publicize it. She picked up on that and has kept quiet too.

I think Priscilla has also kept quiet for Lisa Marie and the grandkids. Priscilla has been fairly honest about why she and Elvis split, but she's always remained loving and respectful when speaking of Elvis. Lisa Marie was lucky to have two parents who remained united in their love and care for her, whatever other problems they may have had.
