ETA: Apparently her people punched him in the face after he threw some homophobic slurs around. Yeah, that sounds about right. Also, from from an article I found on the incident I was trying to remember: Oh, okay. Over-dramatic hostess, you have no idea what's coming. And it also had an impact on a PSA with GLAAD: People link from a '93 article, hah! From the People article: Does anyone see a pattern here? Also: Apparently Madonna told no lies, in light of the quote I included in the previous post.

The Pope is in Philadelphia. Marky Mark also.
"Mark Wahlberg, will serve as the host for The Festival of Families with Pope Francis on Saturday, September 26 on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway."

As if his ego wasn't big enough already.
Marky Mark: It's an honor to meet you your holiness.
Pope Francis: Say hello to your mother for me.

Ug. Did he ever get his felony hate crime removed from his record like requested? I feel like the news on that is still in limbo.

Will he be moved to tears like John Boehner was? (The cynic in me thinks that will do wonders for his image, especially in the mind of those who still remember that hate crime.) By the way, I believe that Boehner's display of emotion was genuine. It also made sense on some level to host the Pope in DC. Marky Mark Mark Wahlberg? In Philly? How random! By the way, when I saw his thread pop up, I was expecting a divorce announcement.

By the way, when I saw his thread pop up, I was expecting a divorce announcement. I was expecting a new duchey quote, or a violence related arrest.

I got your douchey quote right here:
The Pope could give a fuck about your movies or the fact that you're a movie star. MW's emceeing was generally pretty awkward. At one point he tried to play to the crowd by saying (not exclaiming) "Go Eagles" without any conviction cause, duh, he's a Bostonian. He would have gotten his ass kicked if showed any passion cheering for another team.

So Boston didn't have any other prominent Catholics who were available to emcee? That is just so weird to me. I've told this story before here, but Marky Mark hit it big my senior year in college and I remember looking at his big Marky Mark coffee table book in the university bookstore and the dedication inside read "I want to dedicate this book to my dick." So, yes, Boston. Appropriate choice for introducing the holy father.

Why was he even invited to emcee in Philadelphia? Were there no prominent Philadelphia Catholics available?
