I've always kind of liked her, but man, that was a dumb thing to say.
One thing I like about her is that she often talked about her sister in interviews and how she was helping plan her sister's wedding and blah blah. It was only when I saw a pic of them that I saw her sister is Asian and was adopted. I like that Katharine doesn't flaunt that in a "Look at me, I'm such a kind and tolerant person because I grew up with an adopted sister from another country, hooray for me!" way that some celebs would. And I also liked when she corrected the guy at the Emmys who mispronounced her name. People always mispronounce my name and it gets totally annoying, so I know how she felt.
But again, what a dumb thing to say.

I agree with the gist of her comment (I hated that movie) but her observations lose all their punch given the fact that she accepted lots of money to do the damn film! I like Katherine and generally I think she's more astute and smarter than most of her contemporaries but this was a silly thing to say, IMO.

How the hell did she land the cover of Vanity Fair?

6 million! I can't believe she's already getting/asking for that kind of money for films. What other staring role did she have before Knocked up? Totally bitting the hand that feeds..sheesh.

Is it really that bad to say you find the movie sexist, even if you agreed to be in it? I don't have an opinion on her one way or the other, and I haven't really read a lot about her either (I know she's royally hated at Television Without Pity, but frankly, I don't see her famewhoring everywhere the way I'm apparently supposed to). But acting's her job, so it's not like she can or must take only flattering, girl-power type roles that jibe with her personal beliefs. I mean, I love the movie Sin City and the comics it's based on. I would have accepted a role in that film in two seconds because I love the film noir look and the over-the-top hardassery of it. But goddammit, every female Frank Miller writes is a stripper, prostitute or ice-cold bitch who usually finds a way to get naked before shooting someone. I get that's part of the whole Sin City thing and I get that comes with the comic-fanboy territory, but I'm a fan too, and a female, and come on, seriously! I mean, if you broadened your range of female characters beyond being fucktoys with guns, I don't think it would hurt the story, and while I like it for what it is, I would like it more if some of the coolness was parceled out to my gender in a more equal share. And now this post is all about me and not Katherine Heigl. But isn't it fair that maybe she saw the script was a decent comedy and could be a good movie and wanted to be involved, but didn't like how the women were portrayed? Because there are some pretty cool movies with some pretty shitty female characterization. I thought 300 was nifty too, and the one female lead was shown to be smart and capable...until she turned around and used sex to bribe some punkass enemy of her husband's, because apparently, that is the only way women can bargain. Anyway. I should probably take my angst to the Feminism thread.
I agree that she probably should have phrased it better, but I don't necessarily think she shouldn't be able to say she doesn't care for certain aspects of the movie. It does almost create a knee-jerk response of "Well, you were IN IT!" though. Maybe if the quotes came in a more thoughtful context it would seem more like a fair creative critique than just bashing something she was a part of.

I just find it really tacky. Apatow gave her a job. He's said nothing but wonderful things about her. And she insulted him publically. That's not cool to me. And beyond sounding ungrateful, she also sounds like a money-grubbing actress who'll do anything for fame. The difference between your scenario with Frank Miller and what KH said is that she said straight-out that she *didn't* love the movie.
It doesn't make me hate her, but it was an incredibly dumb thing to say. If for no other reason than that Apatow seems incredibly loyal to his actors and I'd say she's blown any shot of getting another role from him.

But she's flat out stating that she thought it was sexist, blah blah, she had a "hard time loving it" blah blah. Bottom line is she took it for the paycheck and the career potential, which is fine, but that means that superceded this whole "it was sexist" mindset of hers, or said mindset really wasn't that strong to believe with. Having said that, I'm sure she'll come out with more statements to clarify this statement, and she'll get even more attention. One of Bawa's most fascinating people, indeed.

I barely know who she is. And there's nothing about her that makes me want to learn more. I predict ther 15 minutes will be up fairly quickly. Vanity Fair cover for starlets is usually the kiss of death.

Even though it was supposed to be serious and emotionally moving, I laughed my ass off at the scene where Izzie freaks out and starts shrieking ,"What about Me!?!" at Denny on Grey's Anatomy.
