Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana is Disney's new Hilary Duff/Lizzy McGuire. They've been marketed in the same way and have both made shitloads of money. This too will pass.

She can't sing, she can't act, but she'll probably end up being a billionaire. You know, I keep hearing that she's going to be a billionaire, but I seriously doubt it. I just read in one of those entertainment mags that Miley made $18mil last year. Not small potatoes of course, but nowhere near billions. I know there's a Hannah Montana empire but I can't see it lasting long enough to make her billions. She really can't sing. I almost think she's worse than Britney. It's so annoying that someone who can't sing gets her own show about being a singer.

I would hope so, but Duff cut ties with the Mouse because her Momager basically gave Disney an ultimatum. I think Hannah Montana/Miley is bigger than Duff ever was.
I wonder about Miley's mother. In that Barbara Walters' "Most Fascinating" special, she mentioned her mom decided she should have her own wing in their house. Billy Ray and Miley seem dumb as rocks (check the Stupid Quotes thread), but perhaps her mom is more savvy.

That's the impression I have too. I'm not sure why I'm aware of this girl (is it because of the internet and all those celebrity blogs?). However, she seems to be on all kinds of awards shows and on Oprah as well. Her empire will probably slowly grow.
However, her voice is really, really bad. Unfathomably bad. Britney's voice was at least tolerable when she wasn't singing a ballad. Hillary Duff wasn't this bad either. I wonder how she'll be able to keep her fanbase when the kids listening to her realize that she sounds like a horse.
I guess she'll probably start taking off her clothes like Britney did, but even though Britney was presented as a somewhat good girl I don't remember the emphasis on Christianity in her marketing. I don't remember Britney ever talking about Jesus or what her favorite Bible quotes her so it wasn't that jarring to see her transition from virginal girl-next-door to stripper.

Hmmm, let's see which singers have gone on about their virginity recently? Jordin Sparks, Miley Cyrus, and now Dancing with the Stars' Julianne Hough. And I find them all annoying.
I think Miley is getting by on catchy songs. I hate her voice, but I really like the songs "See You Again" and "Best of Both Worlds" Those two songs would be catchy even if she didn't sound like a robot who smokes and has a country twang.
I think part of it is Disney's fixation with trying make sure all their songs sing, even if they....can't.
I don't know, maybe I'm optimistic, but I think Miley's self-destruction won't occur until she leaves her teens.

I'm sick of her. And I haven't even seen her show or one single video. I just moved back to the States three weeks ago after living in Prague for over 8 years. All I freakin see is Hannah freakin Montana.

Listened to one of her songs where she isn't singing live. Okay, now I can see how she came this far. On the CD versions of her songs she sounds tolerable. But everytime I've seen her sing live, she's been so, so bad.
There is a huge discrepancy between the CD version of her voice and the live version of her voice.

I had no idea she's so popular. I've been out of the States for a year now, and the last time I was home Miley was just another D-List Disney actress on a crappy show (and I genuinely liked "The Suite Life of Zach and Cody"!). From what I remember, the girl did not have much talent to speak of. Raven Symone could out-act and out-sing her. "That's So Raven" was pretty groanworthy, don't get me wrong, but there's something really cute and likable about Raven.
The moment I really began to dislike Miley was after reading her "My dog got old, grey, and weird-looking so I think we replaced him!" in the "Dumb Quotes" thread. Idiot.

I don't know exactly what they call it, but I have heard of something called a voice corrector. Apparently it makes you sound better. But this is done with many music stars. A common tactic is to double track the voice. If you really pay attention you can tell. For example listen to the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs Gold Lion. I myself saw Cyrus' New Years Eve performance with that one song that just would not end and her voice didn't sound any better then someone you might hear at a karaoke bar.
