The original Poseidon Adventure was cheesy, but it was better than I'd thought it would be. I loved how the Stella Stevens character just had to take off her skirt and spent the rest of the movie in her underwear, soaking wet. And I think one of the other female leads spent the movie in tiny hot pants. I don't recall any male characters having to disrobe at any point.
I wonder if they're going to have a whole new plot or follow the original one...?

Nope not for me. I am terrified of tsunamis and just the previews make my heart pound.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one! There's something so humilating about admitting that you are terrified by The Poseidon Adventure, of all things. I'm with you, though.
I think I'm just not a big diaster movie girl.

I'll be avoiding this too. I hope to take a cruise someday, and if I ever see this movie, I'd be planning my escape route for the entire vacation.

I'll be going to see this movie for the hotness that is Josh Lucas.

I think this looks awful! Lucas is hot and Kurt Russell and Richard Dreyfuss are good actors more than capable of elevating a film like this, but everything about it looks so second rate. B-list actors remaking a cheesy but, in its own way, classic 70s disaster film. I am not saying I won't see it, because I am curious to see if they embrace the cheese or try to make a "serious" film, but I cannot convince myself that this is going to be anything but bad.
I predict the reviews employ the word "disaster" a lot.

I want to see this. I have a thing for Wolfgang Petersen movies, it's one of those things that can't be explained. I just enjoy them whether they are good or bad. Das Boot was great of course, but I also liked Troy. And even convinced others to see it (some of them were mad afterwards) because I thought it was so damn enjoyable to watch (and I'm an Iliad reader! which made some of the previously mentioned people mad too come to think of it...) Anyway, the cast seems perfect for the movie and Petersen is really at his best when directing stuff that takes place in cramped spaces (Das Boot, The Perfect Storm). He's also at his best when the cast is mostly made up of scruffy men, but I guess Poseidon will have a few women in it so that might be the weak point.

I have a sinking (heh) suspicion that this film will tank (I couldn't resist) at the box office.

I can't even watch the trailer. It's not that I fear water, it's just that I fear the water in my lungs.

For me, it is the giant wall of water. It scares the absolute living daylights out of me. It is the same irrational reason I can watch footage of the (real) tsunami in Asia, but am terrified at the giant wave at the end of (fake) Deep Impact. I get chills just thinking about it.
