Just wanted to keep the discussion going. I still think this movie looks awesome. Here's the link to the new trailer. I hope that works.

I so want this movie to be good, but somehow I have a horrible sinking feeling in my tummy.

I keep wondering how and when Bruce Willas was able to regrow hair... It looks like it might be great though!

I am so unaccountably excited about this. It could either kick ass or suck, but such is life. The cast list alone, however, means they'll be enough pretty to plant my ass in an opening night seat. I have a link to the Comic Con spot. It takes forever and a half to load, but it will. It's mostly a focus on Josh Hartnett's character, with a little extra mixed in. Enjoy!

I'm excited for this movie purely because of the cast. How could some many wonderful actors do something awful? (I know it's happened before, but please don't remind me).
It looks really interesting and fun...though using the word 'fun' to describe it seems kinda odd.

Oh my word! Just got back from the 12:15 showing at the Arclight. Guys, it's gonna be a hit of megaproportions -- all three Thursday shows were sold out. My friends and I were worried when we realized we were surrounded by comic book diehards, high school students and the like (whoops at the Episode 3 trailer). No need for fear -- it is wonderful, swift-moving and has across-the-board appeal. Perhaps a bit too swift -- more plot than one can cram a stick at -- 3 stories, told separately with some intertwined characters. Beautiful to look at, full of energy and pitch black humor. Even certain not-so-great actresses are somehow cast well and given good material and acquit themselves. In other words, Brittany's crazy eyes are put to good use. The look is almost sculptural in some scenes -- Carla Gugino's gorgeous body (had a momentary lapse of heterosexuality) looks like marble. Filled to the brim with oddballs and killer supporting roles. Words of warning: brutally, brutally violent - some meant to be cartoonish, some deadly serious. I only think the B&W prevented it from being NC-17. The visuals are mindblowing but always motivated -- you never get the sense that the directors care more about what F/X they can do. Have to give a link an actual film critic's glowing review. FWIW, Clive Owen reaches new heights of sexiness and the film offers the schadenfraude of seeing Rory Gilmore as a hooker.

I just started reading the graphic novels, but I haven't seen the movie yet. Is there anyone out there who has read the novels and seen the movie?
I'm incredibly engrossed in the story and it sounds like Robert Rodriguez had to do really talk Frank Miller into making the movie.
I have such high hopes. I love the darkness and I can't wait to see if it lives up to the truly noir style of the books.

My thoughts, with no spoilers worthy of the name:
1. I was skeptical, but they did it: They basically transcribed the Frank Miller series right onto the movie screen with virtually no alteration The very, very few new scenes are brilliant (the closing scene, and the one of Jack trying to pick his gun off the ground).
2. It's an incredible technical achievement. Every scene is perfectly shot. Nothing looks awkward or out of place.
3. Carla Fucking Gugino. I'm thinking people will go into this talking about Jessica Alba and come out talking about Carla.
4. Clive Owen is one of those rare British actors who can't do an American accent.
5. I knew it was going to be incredibly violent, but it looked even more violent onscreen. The black and white cinematography blunts it, but only a little.
6. Jessica Alba sure is purty. She can't act at all, though. And wears the most clothes ever seen on an exotic dancer.
7. The movie is funnier than almost every comedy I've seen in the last few years. Funny in a grim, bleak way, but still laugh-out-loud funny.
8. Devon Aoki isn't quite right as Miho. She's not quite the right size, and doesn't quite have the attitude.
9. Rosario Dawson really does have perfect skin. You can't help thinking this while watching the extreme close-ups of her face, and then they mention it on screen. "You with your perfect skin." For all I know, they digitally retouched her to make her look that good, but still.
10. As I thought, Robert Rodriguez was the perfect director for the material.
11. Brittany Murphy is actually, no wait hear me out, actually, no kidding, interesting in this movie. Or at least she doesn't suck.
12. Josh Hartnett is still a cigar-store dummy. Really, the world's worst actor. But he has very few lines in this, so no real damage done.
13. Marv is my favorite movie character of the year. Or next year.
14. The scene directed by Quentin Tarantino (Benicio Del Toro and Clive Owen talking phantasmagorically in the car) was my favorite of many favorite scenes in the movie. And funny as hell. "Whaddaya gonna do, call Triple A?"

Marv was beautiful. Loved Bruce. Missed the real Benicio badly.
My theatre was only half full and the person I was with said "let's go" after about 20 min. I said "take a nap, I want to see it." It was kind of an exhausting experience and I'm hoping I don't have nightmares tonight. I did laugh though and no one else in the theatre did.
So that was Carla (Fuckin') Gugino? I'm so back on the diet.
