Star Wars: Episode III--Revenge of the Sith

I really liked this one. I found some moments awkward here and there, but I was sincerely devastated by Anakin's fall. And seeing R2, Yoda & the gang was such a satisfying nostalgia trip.

I rented ep. IV the next day. When they blow up Leia's home planet in the first half-hour, I felt a new sort of sadness about that. Seriously, before I saw the background in ep. III, I barely registered that that ball going kablooey.

I'm sorry to get all fan girly here, but Christ on a stick Hayden was FUCKING hot in this flick.

This is the same reaction I had to Ewan. It's taken me a long time to get over his bad wig in Emma, but now I love him for how excellent he was here. The dialogue he was given was as bad (or as good) as anyone's but he struck the perfect tone with those lines. Not too heavy-handed. Made them ring believable and true. That's really tricky to pull off. As game as Hayden and Natalie were, they'd get jacked up by the melodrama sometimes. They both looked very pretty tho.

One thing that bugged: In Ep IV, Leia tells Luke she remembers her “real” mother a little bit. She says she remembers her being beautiful and sad. How can Leia remember this when Padme croaks right after the twins are birthed? I keep trying to fanwank it, like maybe she’s describing her adoptive mother. But, having read a lot the EU, she knew she was adopted. Did Bail tell her these things and she’s projecting? Or what? GL fucked up on that one.

Oh wow. I didn't know that Leia distinguishes that she's talking about her "real" mother. During the movie, my mind automatically recalled what Leia says about her mother. Then just as quickly, it pulled up the rationale most people went to. I've been happily living in plot-continuity land since then. But the "real" mother stuff could throw a wrench into that.

Oh I know. The choice of "testing" the Death Star on Alderaan makes even more sense after seeing Ep3. Me thinks some higher ups knew Bail Organa was helping the Jedi somehow and that ticked them off. They finally saw an excuse to get rid of him in a "meaningful" way. And yes, that scene holds much more emotional punch now that we've seen the planet and some people who lived there.

I know this is shallow but you know what bugs me? Out of all the continuity holes I've tried to fanwank, I just can't get over the idea that Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen (serious hotness in this movie) would have kids that end up as fugly as Mark Hamil and Carrie Fisher. They were okay looking in Ep IV, but the car crash and drugs really did them in. Though, for Fisher it wasn't really until EpVI where she ended up with "butterface". Drugs are bad mmmkayyyy.

That is hilarious. Almost as good as this one.

I found JEJ's reading of "Where's Padme?" moving. Sure, I was expecting vintage Vader badassness from the voice of JEJ, but thought it fitting and showed the difference between these first moments of Vader and his later self. When we next see him in Episode IV, any semblance of humanity and feeling in his voice has completely vanished.

Agreed, however, that the "Nooooooooo!!!" was perhaps a tad too much on GL's part.

BrokenOx, I was also irked by the "Leia remembers her "real" mother" inconsitency. A few months ago, I read a spoiler that Leia was born first and after that, Padme held her and was looking her in the eye. Through this, Leia was able to remember her mother (the Force, I guess). That made more sense to me than what ended up in the movie, which was Leia being born second and not being held by her mother at all. I haven't been able to successfully fanwank that one yet.

Can't remember who said this, but agreed that Hayden's acting when Anakin learns that Padme is pregnant was spot-on (and hilarious--in a good way).

Awww...while Mark wasn't helped by possibly the worst hairdo in SW history in Return of the Jedi, I thought he still looked cute in Empire. And I thought Carrie looked very pretty in Empire, in particular. While not as fashion-magazine gorgeous, I do think Mark/Carrie look like they could be the children of Hayden/Natalie.
