I saw it without being spoiled at all and I am SO glad that I didn't know anything, including casting info.
And I loved, loved, loved it. Why is not the 3rd one playing RIGHT NOW?

I saw it last night. I kind of agreed with many reviewers that it was WAY too long, but that was made worse by the fact that the theater I was in was stiflingly hot and I am pregnant.
I was also very confused as to what was even going on half the time. But Jack Sparrow delivered and that is literally the only reason I went to see it. Disney should kiss Johnny Depp's feet for the rest of his life.

Woohoo! Pirates had the biggest opening weekend with $132 million. Awesome. It's official, Johnny Depp is God. I would worship him like those cannibals did, but without the eating part.

I think it may actually exceed Box Office Mojo's estimates -- buzz here is pretty positive, the Cinemascore ranking is *very* good - if showings continue to be sold out throughout the day, there's no reason to think that Sunday won't bring in more than estimates. The day's only halfway over, right? I think you could be right. I just got back from a 3:40 show and it was sold out. We had our tickets already, got there 1/2 before the show, and missed having to sit in the first few rows by about 5 minutes. And while I think it was a bit too long, my only true complaint is that Johnny isn't on screen enough. I'd love him to be in every scene. He owns that part like no one else could. LOL!

So no one agrees with me that <<Jack/Elizabeth>> was really hot? Come on, people! If it didn't cost $10 (and if it wasn't soooo long) I would see it again just for that.

I just hate Kiera Knightley way too much to find her hot in anything. I do, however, understand her character's attraction to Jack Sparrow.

I found that scene quite HOT! I am a tad confused though. If Will saw her kiss Jack, did he realize why she kissed him? Does he know she doomed him to death, or that she did it to save them all? But at the end, even Will agrees that he wants Jack to come back?

I loved the first movie--it single-handedly turned me into a Depp fan--and, much to my surprise, I absolutely loathed the second one.
I thought the SFX was fantastic and amazingly seamless, but that's about all the positives I can come up with. I hated the high body count; even though it helped make the movie darker (something I appreciate), it was done with no semblance of wit or taste. Most of all, though, I hated what the main characters had become: self-serving caricatures of themselves, completely indifferent to the deaths of innocents all around them, yet still being given the sympathetic heroes' edit. I couldn't have cared less about these people, let alone attempt to watch them for two and half hours.
Had I not been with friends, I would have walked right out.

Oh no. It was the hotness. So very, very hot. Like, turn the air conditioning up in the theatre kinda hot. Wishing for a hard R (or ARRRR!) director's cut kinda hot. A 'Lois & Clark who'? kinda hot. I can't wait for the third one for the guilt weighing on Elizabeth, followed by some sweaty makeup/hate sex? perhaps? She broke out the handcuffs while making out, so we know she likes to play rough. Hot! . That'd be sweet. I kinda dug the darkness factor - especially in a PG-13 Disney movie - but see where you're coming from, Id. But which innocent deaths are you referring to in particular? I'm just amazed that a fricking mainstream, PG-13 summer blockbuster gave me the chills in some places. Another reason why the estimates can't be accurate - I'm on the West Coast and it seems with the longish running time, there are a lot of really odd showing times - including a TON of 11:15 shows at some theatres. So no fricking way that an estimate done at 3 o'clock is accurate. My friend went again yesterday and said the Grove was sold out all day by 2-3, so they went downtown. I told her about the postcredits tag - thanks laconicchick - it was you, right? - and now she's like, oh, darn, we'll have to see it AGAIN! Massive fan, though - she saw the first one 4-5 times in theatres. I bought her the DVD at B&N while we waited. Of course, now I want the DVD for myself to watch the first one again!
