Yeah, our local movie reviewer guy didn't really like it, but he said that Depp is great and that he is sure that people will still flock to see it because of him. I know I will.

Just saw it. A lot of action, great effects, a few good surprises and a good story. I love Johnny. His "gay pirate" performance is a little off-putting, but he did a good job and he's genuinely funny. Its a good summer movie. I can't rave about it, but I enjoyed it.

I saw it last night and I really liked it. I thought that the first 20 minutes dragged a bit, but once the story started going, it was a full on blast. I just got lost in the film and was surprised when it was over. It was definitely a lot of fun. I also liked that it was darker than the first film, but had a great ending that is going to make waiting for the next one really hard!
Overall, it was a fun summer flick and it delivered all the goods.
I also read that it sold out on hundreds of midnight screenings accross the country and that for five hours, fandango was selling seven tickets per second.

I really enjoyed it. It is the first film of the summer that I would consider seeing again. I do agree that the first half hour could have been trimmed to make for a better movie on the whole, but once things got started it was awesome. I LOVED the three way fight on the big wheel thing and the return of Norrington as a sexxxy priate. The film was a little too long, but, strangely, I didn't want it to end!
Bring on the third!

I liked it too, but I think I need a re-watch to determine if I love it or not. Some parts in the beginning seemed very disconnected to me, but the movie picked up and the fight scenes were spectacular and pretty hilarious. The ending was very cliffhanger-ish but I understand that they want you to watch the 3rd movie. [spoilers] I didn't really understand what was up with Davy Jones and the Flying Dutchman, and how does having his heart control him? I understand that whoever controls the Flying Dutchman and the Creature can control the seas but how does the heart relate? [/spoilers]* Davy Jones is destroyed if the heart is stabbed. Everyone bound in servitude to him would be free, sending the Flying Dutchman out of commission. Now that the heart is no longer in a secure location, Davy cannot really control his own fate. He can still summon the Kraken but it can still operate on its own without him. * The first 20 minutes or so were slow and I cannot figure out what the * cannibals* added to the story other than to pad the action scenes in the beginning. Not that it wasn't fun to watch but this movie felt looooong at times... How far into the third movie will it be before * someone figures out what Elizabeth really did to Jack? I thought that maybe the fortune teller could sense it, but she didn't really say anything to that effect. Elizabeth and Will can't possibly get back together now, can they? I hope not. And I didn't like her cracking Norrington over the head with that bottle, either, even if he did turn out to be a (very hot) bad guy.* It took me far too long to figure out that the title refers to more than one thing.

I just got back and I loved it. I plan on seeing it again tomorrow. I do think they could have cut out the cannibals. My favorite scene was the fight between Norrington/Jack/Will while Elizabeth threw things at them. Norrington was extremely sexy in this one and I hope he's a good guy in the third. I'm a little worried about that.

What the fuck? That's my only reaction. What. the. fuck? I KNOW! The entire movie made zero sense to me. Still, it was entertaining and I'll prolly see it again. Oh, and tantrum-throwing Elizabeth is officially the most amusing thing I've ever seen.

The movie confused me at times, but it was fun. It just suffered from the usual second-part-of-a-trilogy weirdness, and that's fine. I just went for Johnny, anyhow. Spoiler: The whole cannibal thing was ridiculous, and although Jack running is funny, it gets old after awhile. The Kraken thing freaked me out, and I'm going fishing next week. Ick. Oh, and speaking of ick, all the monsters and cannibals and crazy Davey Jones servants in this movie made it way more disturbing than the first film was. Skeletons, I can handle. Scary squid-people? Jack using a leg as a paddle? A beating heart in a chest? No.

Just got back a bit ago. LOVED it! I think that some of the critics are missing the point. The first POTC was a surprise hit, mostly because of Johnny Depp's wonderful performance, but it was still a slightly cheesy DISNEY movie. It had a wonderful plot and great writing and a stellar performance from the main character. I think people were expecting too much from POTC 2; like it was going to be Oscar-worthy or something. I thought it was the right mix of funny, cheesy, great effects, and decent plot. I didn't find it that hard to follow, although I'd agree that the first 1/2 hour or so drags a bit. Still, I think I'm going to go see it again next weekend, and I will buy it on DVD. That's more than I can say about any of the movies I've actually paid to see in the theaters this year.

I saw it last night too and really enjoyed it. I love seeing a movie on opening night. When Johnny Depp came on to the screen for the first time, everyone was clapping and cheering and screaming.
Johnny Depp just owns the role of Jack Sparrow.
