I was thinking about the Harry relationships the other day and I am wondering something. In the films, we don't see much of the switchover from Cho to Ginny. Do we? Maybe I'm missing something. Nope. Cho is older than Harry, right? It is realistic that she'd be a passing crush and she'd move on to Edward Cullen. Psychologically, Harry winds up with Ginny because she gives him the extended family and doting parents he always longed for. If any of these people existed, their marriage would be safe and comfortable. She's the female version of Ron, for heaven's sake. Luna would have dragged him all over the world looking for magical creatures.

So what you're saying is Ginny really is a piece of plywood?

So what you're saying is Ginny really is a piece of plywood? Have the films ever shown her from more than one angle? She just might be a plywood cutout. Or one of those inflatable people they use for crowd scenes.

I love Harry/Luna. Everyone else just looks at her crazy but he just takes it in stride and is all "Torkwanglers? Okay then." ;D And he invited her to the party in HBP. He's so sweet with her. Luna is also really patient and Harry has a lot of anger in him. He needs people that are patient with him. Clearly, I've thought about this way too much. You have not thought about it too much, because I have thought the same. I liked how she was the only one who recognized him in disguise at Bill and Fleur's wedding in the book without being told he was even there. I also noticed that when she wore her crazy outfits, Harry would describe it and then say to himself that it was a "pleasant sight" Then of course, she's the one that gives him the opportunity for some alone time after the Battle of Hogwarts. His daughter's middle name being Luna was icing on the cake. They had insane chemistry on paper and onscreen. Dammit! Ginny, GTFO! A friend of mine said after she read DH, "JKR had Harry end up with Ginny at the end, but she was writing Harry/Luna throughout the book."

I've never understood the Harry/Luna ship. I guess I don't see anything other than platonic chemistry - books or movies. They can relate to each other's backgrounds (both outsiders and have tragic childhood experiences) but outside of that, they have nothing in common and want completely different things in life. When Harry asks her to that party, doesn't it say that he regrets asking as soon as he'd said the words? She's a friend but nothing in the books suggests Harry sees her as anything more.

No, I get it but it's just that Ginny is just so charisma-free, book and movie version, that I put him with anyone else (except Hermione). Ginny was potentially a good character but the execution of it is just wrong.

Plus there is the whole Ginny = Harry's mother factor, which is a little too much for me, too.

I get why Harry ends up with Ginny. But what I'm saying is we don't see much of the shift b/t Cho and Ginny in the films. Unless I've missed something. I've seen the movies many times over but out of order so perhaps some little thing has slipped past me.

I just got done watching part 5 and the other than a wide-eye glance from Ginny at the idea of Cho liking Harry there was no mention of the Harry/Ginny romance. So, it does come out of the blue in the movies.
And I've found my people. I thought I was the only one who liked Harry/Luna. Luna and Neville are my favorite characters in the books and I was always sad that Ginny didn't end up marrying Neville and Luna marrying Harry. That way they'd finally be part of the trio like they wanted so badly.

I would at least have been happy if Luna ended up with Neville, but she ends up with some random guy according to Rowling.
