I seriously thought they'd wind up together too! At the end of the books, reading about them & their kids I was like..."Well...huh."

I always wonder about Rowling's saying that one character got a reprieve from death in DH at the cost of another. I doubt she would've killed off the Weasley's only daughter, but I always wonder...was it Hagrid? Percy? Luna? And who bit it instead: Dobby? Lupin/Tonks? It's one of my lingering questions, maybe one day she'll fess up. In this interviewRowling says Arthur Weasley got the reprieve and Tonks/Lupin bit it instead.

It would've been awesome if Ginny would've bit the dust. Then Harry couldn've ended up with Luna like he was supposed to. Harry/Luna shipper talking here, don't me. For reals! Maybe next year for NaNoWriMo I'll delve back into fanfic. At least in the last flick, MovieGinny (sorta kinda) DID something to show some of BookGinny's bravery, but this time around...? And Harry doesn't even appear to think about her or mention her in this movie. You'd think Ron might've brought that up during the big "you don't have a family to lose, but I do" fight. There's nothing to show any connection between Harry and Ginny at all after their one kiss. And her "zip me up" line was so pathetic that I was hoping Harry would be all "Do it yourself via magic, you transparent ho-bag" and go party with Luna. I adore MovieLuna, and the actress who plays her is doing a fantastic job. The scene with Dobby was lovely, just the right amount of pathos, sensitivity, eccentricity and innocence. And plus she made a dirigible plum tree!

I did think that was a bit odd too -- his other kids are named after people who died (James Sirius, Albus Severus) and then Lily Luna. Not named after, say, Tonks or maybe some Weasley family name. Maybe Harry was trying to say something... I keep calling Bonnie Wright "Bonnie Wood" in my head - I'm sure because my brain is trying to stick "Oliver Wood" in there somewhere, but it could also be some sort of Freudian comment on her acting ability. Very pretty girl, with only 1.5 facial expressions.

LMAO! ;D I get not recasting at this point, but I find it shocking SHOCKING that those are the best takes that they got and they decided to add them to the final cut of the films. It is really unfortunate. I guess the director doesn't care (we know the screenwriter doesn't. Bastard.) 'cuz they figure people will pair Harry off with other girls in their own heads. Luna (FTMFW), Hermione ( ), random girl, or Ron.

Ultimately, Ginny doesn't get a ton of screentime so I'm guessing the director decided not to traumatize Wright or the crew with endless takes. Just a couple to test her boundaries and off to print!
I actually thought the zip up scene was pretty well done, but the "tie your shoelace" debacle from 5? 6? still makes me cringe. There's no denying she's a gorgeous girl (her hair is to die for) and I'm sure really sweet. But so much of the cast has...I dunno, that something that she's missing, it seems blaringly obvious on screen.

I have to agree with you guys, although I like book Harry/Ginny. I hate how they always portray Ginny in the movies as just standing around and watching, while everyone else DOES something. It was especially obvious when everyone came back from the botched rescue of Harry from Privet Drive. But at this point, I think I like Fanon H/G more than even Canon H/G. It is freezing cold here and I have been cooped up inside reading fan fic.

Everyone else just looks at her crazy but he just takes it in stride and is all "Torkwanglers? Okay then." ;D And he invited her to the party in HBP. He's so sweet with her. Luna is also really patient and Harry has a lot of anger in him. He needs people that are patient with him. Clearly, I've thought about this way too much.

I was thinking about the Harry relationships the other day and I am wondering something. In the films, we don't see much of the switchover from Cho to Ginny. Do we? Maybe I'm missing something.
We do get to see him flirting with that waitress with the fantastic hair at the beginning of Half-Blood Prince.

You have not thought about it too much, because I have thought the same. I liked how she was the only one who recognized him in disguise at Bill and Fleur's wedding in the book without being told he was even there. I also noticed that when she wore her crazy outfits, Harry would describe it and then say to himself that it was a "pleasant sight" Then of course, she's the one that gives him the opportunity for some alone time after the Battle of Hogwarts. His daughter's middle name being Luna was icing on the cake. They had insane chemistry on paper and onscreen. Dammit! Ginny, GTFO!
