Harry Potter Movies

I didn't get a chance to register at The Other Place before we all had to move, so I'm starting a thread here to see if I can get this question answered. This is really bugging me more than I am comfortable admitting!

On the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban dvd, when Snape is teaching the Defense Against the Dark Arts class in place of Professor Lupin, and Hermione blurts out the characteristics of a werewolf, one of the signs is that the werewolf only answers to the call of one of its own kind. Well, during the scene where she and Harry go back in time and end up watching Lupin's werewolf attacking Sirius and the rest of the gang, TimeTravelHermione howls just in time to distract Lupin/Werewolf and cause him to turn and run toward the howl. I've watched the movie lots of times, and that's always nagged at me. I haven't read that particular HP book, so I don't know if it's referenced in there or not. Does this mean that Hermione is part werewolf, or am I a victim of the Hollywoodization of a great story? Can someone comment on this? Thanks!

Lupin/Werewolf was running towards Hermoine's howl, this doesn't mean she's a werewolf. Lupin probably would have reacted the same way if any person/dog/werewolf howled. In the follow up to the Prisoner of Azkaban, Hermione is not revealed as a werewolf.

I didn't get into the Harry Potter books until I saw the first movie, I never really understood how a person could fully understand the movies when they haven't read the book. They actually leave out quite a bit of info.

Once I saw POA I ran out and immediately bought the Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix books and totally devoured them in a ridiculous amount of time because I couldn't wait to see what happened to everyone. There's no mention of Hermione as Werewolf in either of those books, either, but since I hadn't read the first three books I thought maybe I'd missed something (my kids were both born around the time Sorceror's Stone and Chamber of Secrets were published, and I really missed the Harry Potter train until a couple of years ago). JKR doesn't waste details in her books, so when I heard Hermione pointedly say that about werewolves ONLY answering the call from their own kind, and then Lupin/Werewolf "answered" her "howl" in the woods, I was a little confused. I still wonder about it, though..... but thanks for answering!

My interpretation of that (and, mind you, I haven't given it an overwhelming amount of thought) was just to say you can't distract a werewolf by just any old noise. Like when Hermione was trying to talk to him, "Professor Lupin?" I think they respond to werewolf-like howls. I'm not saying this very well, but I mean that you can "fool" a werewolf by imitating one.

Besides, if Hermione was a werewolf, why hadn't she changed too?

Thanks for the insight, BaseballGirl. I figured it was a "mountain out of a molehill" kind of thing, but as someone who hasn't read all of the books, I wanted to make sure I hadn't missed anything.

The only thing I don't like about the HP movies is the depiction of Uncle Vernon and Draco Malfoy. In the movies, Uncle Vernon is more annoying than cruel, and Malfoy is more bratty than mean.

True, but I can't wait to see how The Order of the Phoenix portrays Professor Umbridge. I wonder if they'll be as subtle about the centars gang rape of her in the movie as they were in the book.

True, but I'm not really crazy about any of the character depictions in general. The movies are entertaining, but, truth be told, sometimes I don't even think of them as the same characters as the ones in the book. Movie!Ron and Movie!Hermoine are not Ron and Hermoine in my mind when I read the books. The same goes with Dumbledore (and although I am one of the few who prefer Michael Gambon's interpretation to Richard Harris's, neither one is truely my Dumbledore either)

Note: Not that I expect the characters to be exactly the same, but sometimes, it's not even close.

I loved OoP but I'm tired of Hermione's constant panty-waist-maiden-Aunt admonitions: "Harry, don't!" "Be careful!" "You must tell a teacher!" Gah. I hope it doesn't turn up in the movie.

Oh, and though he may be a pathological genocidal maniac, Jason Isaacs playing Lucius Malfoy brings the sexay.
